Wow, I really fell behind on this Hoard. Started organizing the submissions tonight. Tomorrow and Wednesday nights I'm going to be out on appointments. I don't think we can have this closed on Friday morning. So, technically, with 3 days left, I'm already extending this through Saturday, so I can try to get things mostly wrapped up Sunday.
Thanks for the contributions. Am I the last one, or are there other projects coming?

I'm not doing anything with it. Unless you want to include my 2.5D Japanese motorcycles, but those are based on model kit art that is not mine even though I have done the legally required 30% modification to them.

I had a few ideas but I lost motivation with my wife being in the hospital the last two weeks. I won't be getting anything done in time. But if I get going in my ideas I'll throw it in another hoard.

Family first. I hope things are going better. Don't forget to take care of yourself to be able to better help her. Is she still in the hospital?

Take care of her and of yourself first, Toman. We'll still be here when you're both feeling better! Hang in there!

OK, here's my batch o' Japanese motorcycles. The original artwork isn't mine, but I modified it more than the legally required 30%. I respect any moderator decision to use it or not

I probably won't do all six for the Hoard Promo photo. I realized at lunch, I hadn't even gotten to the template for this month. And none of my Ossuary projects are complete except for the Bone Circle. Hopefully I can have this put together over the weekend

I will probably close this tonight. Those look good.
Maybe for Halloween you can do a version with the Great Pumpkin rising

Of course you can. Part of the reason this is taking me so long is that I am more of a project person. A wall, a floor or a prop is not a project the way I think. It is going much better now that I am working on a 4X6 ossuary room. I have a lot of things I would have liked to include, but I need to wrap this up

My idea is to take some of okumarts stuff and turn it Warhammer 40k, as it could be that a RPG weekend coming up in November will see the return of my group's Black Crusade characters...

There's enough room at the bottom of the pillars page, can you please do a "bottom" circle for the pillars do we can maje a knocked-over version? Of course, I could do it myself once it's released

Done, but I don't know if these would be structurally sound enough to remain cylindrical in a prone position

If they were carved stone instead of actual skulls, they can just fall all over the place!

What I'd like to see is a semi-collapsed one. slanted top where material slid down, and a pile of rubble that wraps around the base of the column where it fell. But that is definitely above my paygrade

Only if you feel like it. I don't think these bone columns actually supply architectural support. Just a different way to stack the bones. When @coyotepunc mentioned one that fell over, I couldn't figure out how that would happen, but I could see one collapsing ... earthquake or something, and that was how I pictured it.
A couple weeks ago I watched a program on the restoration of the Acropolis and was amazed that they had the engineering expertise to calculate the height-to-diameter ratios on the column segments, and designing the three-part wooden connectors between them that allow these columns to withstand earthquakes and military conquest for all these centuries. Doesn't apply to these columns, but I did find it interesting

It's like always: primitive by our standards does not mean dumb... I was trying to find the names of the parts of the three pieces that connect the column hubs by doing a search for 'acropolis restoration techniques', and found mentions of them and even photos, but not the proper names. In each drum there is a cedar plug shaped like a truncated pyramid. There is a cedar cylinder that loosely fits in holes in the plugs. During an earthquake, the plugs allow the drums to move but the cylinder keeps things aligned when the earthquake ends. Much of the work is repairing work from the last restoration in 1900. Blocks were originally joined with iron pins coated in lead. The lead prevents rust. They omitted the lead in the restoration work, so the pins rusted. As iron oxidizes, it expands. This put pressure on the marble causing cracks. Many blocks had to be replaced due to the cracks caused by the previous restoration work. They are using titanium this time around, and they keep telling about how they need to trust the ancients on how they did things. So they are replacing the cylinder drum cedar plugs with titanium, too. I hope they know what they are doing, but if cedar has worked well for this long, why change? They also mention in the articles how they lament not knowing how the ancients did the tools used in finishing the surfaces. Our new metals do not have the strength of the old tools. Think Samurai swords and wrought iron. Today's 'wrought iron' is really a type of 'cast iron', and only recently have metallurgists found how the old swords were so strong and sharp. At least they think they know. We really have lost a lot of the old techniques. New isn't necessarily better, not to say that old is always better, either, but we need to trust that the ancients may have known something we don't know.

There were several documentations on TV last week about ancient technology. Very interesting! The Greek already had steam-powered machines, the Romans an iron forge run by interconnected water mills, and the Chinese built crossbows with interchangable parts in 200 B.C.
And we think we are oh soooo advanced because we flew to the moon, landing there 6 times... and that was 45 to 50 years ago... Mankind has becom pretty lazy, and most of us would not be able to stay alive, shouldall our precious technology fail...

I was fortunate growing up. Spent a lot of time on my grandparents' farm. Learned to farm, take care of livestock, hunt, trap, butcher, cure hides and a little smithing. Camping and fishing and foraging. Should the world collapse, I could probably last a lot longer than most folk, but I wouldn't like it. Technology is helpful, but it doesn't teach you how to survive without it.

My father originally was a carpenter, but has also worked with metal in a factory of tractor manufacturer Deutz, was a surveyor and finally worked for a huge, internationally operating bank. He was a DIY-guy and did almost everything in our home and garden himself. AND he used us kids as his assistants... I'm good with wood, plants, plastics, metal, and simple electric and electronics work. However, I suck at plumbing. I think, I'd be able to survive a while longer than most of our neighbors, especially since I'm prepared for at least 90 days without civilization. After that, it'd get much harder for me, but I have experience with bows and crossbows, know some fencing, and how to throw axes. I also know how to shoot rifles and handguns, but it's really a challenge here in Germany to get a weapon. So, it's bows and blades for me...

I do bow and blades myself, here in Canada. I don't do electronics, but electric, sure. My plumbing is ok but I think throwing axes is silly. Especially if you have a bow.
