Ship decks of age of sail tall ships usually look almost white from constantly being scrubbed and wiped...

So does it look OK or should I add another whitewash layer?

No, it looks fine. It's just that the "new" look with a brown deck would be something that never really existed, as I don't think the shipwrights would have painted or sealed the upper decks when they'd be polished white, anyways...

I have added options for separate fill (main area) and details (the borders etc) color to be: blue, green, orange, red, yellow, white and black
The main texture skin is also available as inverted = dark wood is light and vice versa
Mix that with the general modifiers (bleached, lighter, darker, warmer and cooler) and you have a couple of 1000 options to choose from :-)

Putting some minis on deck ... I am in the process of finishing this model. I hope to get everything packaged and ready before the holidays (in case any of my Patreons want's to build it already). I am very happy how it turned out. And I think it still is quite easy to build. Have to wait for builders feedback to confirm that. So quickly back to work and get it all ready! Chris

Starting the new year with two new projects. One is the next ship: the Brig! Here's the concept art sketch for it.
It will be 4" longer than the sloop, so the hull we be apx 16" long and 5" wide. So even more space for mini action on deck :-)

A first try at the shape of the hull at half scale ...
Quite pleased with the geometry. Now I am starting to think about hull patterns and the figure head section!

You know, one of these days I am going to have to learn a 3d modeling program. You captured the look very well.

Blender is getting much easier to use with the upcoming 2.8 release. Sketchup is also very user friendly!

Working on the 30mm scale brig ... got the core and outer hull layers adapted over the weekend.
Here you see the size in comparison.
I think with the brig completed the basic series is complete. For a average gaming table you have all the options from small to big.
Depending on the success of the KS I will do the larger ships (frigate and galleon) either soon or later :-)
For now I really like the setup. But I am dreaming! Back to the brig!!!

What an awesome display! I will hold myself back from pining for the larger ships until I've had a chance to build the other ones. Of course, I love seeing your models being created, so I selfishly want to see what you do with even larger ships. But I know that you're not wasting your time, and that I'll get to derive the same voyeuristic thrill seeing whatever else you pour your energy into!

I love to watch the design and build process with others so I try to do the same with my models. Thank you mproteau (Paper Realms)!

Much has happened since the last update. Here are some pics of the prototype phase finished.
Populating with minis ...
... even the small rowing boat fits on deck!
Here's a comparison to the sloop model.
Now I am looking forward to start the weathering layers and then start the final build with cannons and all!

Your craft is always inspiring! Keep up the good work. Hope that you have some plans for some islander craft, like outrigger canoes, canoes canoes and maybe even some rafts (con tiki style maybe?)

got the sails for the prototype done!
need to work on the attachment of the square sails to the mast but AFTER I finished this I got a good idea. have to test it.
then I want to add weathering to the sails and then redo the last steps for the final build.
and then it's time to start prepping the kickstarter for the full series!
exciting times :-) hope I can get enough interest to reach the stretch goals frigate and galleon!!!

Thank you :-) And looking forward to take your money (and giving you lots of ships in return) but will be another month I think. Have to finish the brig this month on Patreon and will then start to setup the Kickstarter. It's my first so have no idea what it will take. But am very excited!

Since I can ask you right here... What would you say how easy it would be to mod one of your "larger" ships into a Venetian Polacca? The main goal would be a trade ship tied to the docks as terrain for skirmish. So, the sails should be up, and there should plenty of space (perhaps on more than one level) to place minis...

I have started working on tied up sails but not sure when I will finish them. Want to finish my Tropical Village Builder set first. I have made some rough prototypes of an optional raised bow deck for the (medium size) brig AND I have the geometry finished for a (large size) galleon. I also am working on the geometry for Corsair ships with the latin sail type like on the first mast in your pic. So basically I am on it, it will just take a while. I'd say end of the year or beginning of next.
