I'm a committed print-and-play guy, but I have to say, your offers through Game Crafter are just about the best pre-printed paper mini packages I've seen. If I read the offers correctly, each $12 set includes 39 figures, double-sided and die-cut, on a black background, which seems like a pretty good value compared to the competition. I especially like the black background--most pre-printed figures have white borders, which I always find very distracting and immersion-breaking. I also like the army tray bases that Game Crafter sells for your cardstock mini units. I've never seen paper mini trays like that before. I personally use Litko's clear acrylic bases, and wish Game Crafter offered those tray bases in acrylic. Since the ones at Game Crafter are so cheap ($0.75 for a ten-figure 5x2 unit, up to $3 for a forty-figure, 10x4 unit), I may have to order a few and see how I'd go about painting them. Bottom line, this looks like the best pre-printed mini package I've seen so far. Good luck with it! Afterthought:As swell as these packages are, creyates, I am not sure that many paper mini users are in the habit of browsing The Game Crafter for figures. You should probably add the link at the top of this thread to your forum signature everywhere you post, so that people will know that these products exist and where to find them. You probably want to promote the heck out of them at every social media platform you frequent as well--lots of great game products have languished because buyers had no idea where to find them.

creyates will these minis fit into the Litko 25 mm bases? They should. The Game Crafter bases have 20mm slots, just like the Litko ones. 20x4mm base tabs are pretty standard for 25-32mm cardstock minis. Squirmydad, Okumarts, and Permes all use that standard, and Trash Mob, Printable Heroes, Kev's Lounge and most others are easily adaptable to match it, using an Xacto and a black Sharpie. That said, and slightly off topic, since I discovered Litko's 20mm bases, I've adapted my smaller figures (kobolds, goblins, halflings, imps, small animals, etc.) to use those bases with a 17mm tab. This doesn't matter in RPGs played on a square or hex grid, but it makes a difference in skirmish wargames like Frostgrave and Song of Blades and Heroes, both of which use base-to-base contact to determine who can hit who, and how many tiny critters can attack one big one. It means you can squish in a couple or three more hobbits against a troll on a 40 or 50mm base. That may not come up often, but when it does, it matters.

I definitely want to set up some packs on the Game Crafter now. Though, I dug through their shop, navigating to paper mini products doesn't feel very intuitive.

Those look great! I've been trying to find time to get my templates setup and figures uploaded to their site. Were there any major difficulties that you could share in the layout and upload process? Thanks.

They aren't really great at answering questions either. I will have to trial and error this I suppose.

If you search for "paper miniatures" there you get mostly bases, a set of "Soldier Cards" and two sets by creyates. Looks like he is ahead of the curve.

I did that search first, then just 'paper', which gave a better feel for what is there. clicking RPG brought up more of what I would expect, but creyates' sets were not in the group. I think it may be a settings issue

I think it may be a settings issue In fairness, creyates' target market is miniatures wargamers, not RPGers, so I'm not surprised if his stuff isn't tagged for that. If it's possible for one product to appear in more than one tag list or category, then he or the site should add the RPG tag or category to his products, because I think many RPG players who use paper minis would be interested in his stuff. If it can be done, of course.

jeffgeorge Thank you very much. I'm glad you like them. Pricing has always been a tricky one. Initially I had them at $16.99 with some bases included. In the end I figured it was better to leave the bases separate and keep my price as low as possible. The idea was always to have an affordable, easy in for prospective war gamers. Also, since basing needs vary, I felt like I was adding barriers by charging for something people may not need. I will be adding it to my sig for sure. I will see about adding that RPG tag to the minis as well. nolabert I think so. The Game Crafter's 20mm bases have slightly smaller slots (14mm). The tabs on the minis ar 13.5mm chiefasaur agreed. Hopeuflly they will improve this. I will try to bring it to their attention. emergencyoverride Thanks! I was super pumped when they showed me the prototypes. I'm looking forward to getting my first laser cut Paper Armies set in the mail. Will post pics when it arrives. old squirmydad You should! The only trouble I ran into was optimizing the SVGs for the laser cutter. They have some pretty good resources and tutorials on their site. One tool I found extremely useful was this one: svg.zovu.co/ it will automatically optimize and prep your files for laser cutting. I'd be more than happy to help! okumarts I found the rep I dealt with to be super helpful. However trial and error is always a part of it. You can upload your project and mess around without publishing right away, which helps. migibb I believe Paper Forge is doing some work with them, and probably others. There should be a newsletter going out in several weeks announcing their paper mini products.

I placed an order for Houseguard tonight, along with a large variety of the bases. The checkout process is nice, I am #986 in their order queue and my items should ship June 8th, hopefully I'll be punching out and photographing your Houseguards on June 15th. I'm working my way through their setup videos and I should be able to send them some kits this week.

Darn! Got scooped by squirmydad! My package from the Game Crafter came a day late then expected and was shipped right on the day they said it would (I also ordered a cool little solo sci-fi horror game getting rave reviews on the Solo Boardgamer Facebook group, so maybe that affected printing and shipping). Here are my packages of Paper Armies: The front of the paper armies look good, but I noticed a number of them were misaligned with the rear image so that parts of the back were cropped: They fit Litko bases just fine, although their tabs are pretty minimal. They are scaled well. Here they are in comparison to a Reaper mini: Here they are in comparison to a okumarts paper mini: Mentioned on both the website and on a slip of paper is info that these are laser cut and will have soot on them and smell like a campfire. Both were present. My fingers were black after I punched all the Hunters out (I haven’t punched the Houseguard yet). The minis will require little edging since the edges are already black—just a little touch up on the spots that connect the mini to the sheet. Overall, I’m a little unhappy with the cropping of the images on the backs, but not so much that I regret my purchase. Hopefully, this can be rectified in the future.

Overall, I’m a little unhappy with the cropping of the images on the backs, but not so much that I regret my purchase. Hopefully, this can be rectified in the future. Two-sided printing with die-cutting (or laser cutting, same difference for this purpose) takes really precise presses or printers to assure satisfactory alignment. (That was an awful sentence, but I rewrote it three times to get it to make that much sense!) That's why we don't even TRY to print two-sided minis on our home printers, and just print one sided and fold them over. A registration error of a millimeter or two won't be noticeable on a book or even a playing card, but when cutting out one of our 28mm minis, a millimeter really matters. A registration tolerance of less than a millimeter is a really tall order for a small-press or print-on-demand publisher--they did a pretty good job, considering how hard it is to do what they're attempting.

old squirmydad Great video and review! I really appreciate the time you took to make it. I always get a kick out of seeing someone with my minis. That video made my day nolabert Thanks for that comparison! I will be contacting the Game Crafter about the alignment issues. Hopefully it's an easy fix.
