Above is my one page set of "clone" rules, based on "the original fantasy role playing game." Yes, it is fully playable, and, yes, it all fits on a single sheet of paper.
Well, not really. In fact, N&N is a one page supplement to S&S (also above) which is a closer version (though still a one pager) of... you guessed it... "the original fantasy role playing game." Why do we need a one page clone of the original... blah blah? Largely its a conceit on my part. I wanted to prove that a completely playable, through multiple levels, with a large number of spells, monsters and magic items version of the oed rules could be done on a single sheet of paper. It does work, though you have to read it carefully and rely on the play example.
Anyway, N&N grew out of S&S, as well as an online version of Axis and Allies called Triple A:
triplea-game.org/
This is open software that provides the campaign rules referred to in N&N.
In a nutshell, the players are commandos in a world where the Germans and Japanese have access to mad science and black magic, and the Allied nations do not. The commando team runs multiple raids on the fortress laboratories of the evil Herr Doktor Verbotenschtuff. They acquire serums, gadgets, spells and other such devices that gradually give them super powers. However, all the while, the Triple A campaign is going on around them, and the Allies are gradually losing the war. The more powerful the party becomes, the greater their chances of stopping the Axis by assassinating the Fuehrer.
This is a true campaign in the sense that it is a race against time, and one that the players can actually lose by playing it either too cautious (and letting Hitler take over) or too reckless (and getting themselves wiped out, in which case Hitler wins by default). The players wear two hats: those of the party members in the roleplaying side of things, and those of Allied Supreme Command, in campaign play, as they act as the generals and admirals of America, Britain and Russia, against the GM who plays Germany and Japan. TripleA has a nice cheat function that lets the players and GM emulate all of the sorcerous and super-heroic stuff that is affecting the grand campaign. However, the computer also has its say, and the game can be won or lost by either side, allowing for some white knuckled play.
SO I NEED SOME WEIRD WORLD WAR II FIGURES
Surprisingly, I found comparatively little in the hoards. I already have Patrick's Pulp figures, which are a little helpful, and I like Hoard 94 which gave me a Nazi Mad Doctor and his evil femme fatale nurse sidekick, as well as some SA and SS guys. The Nazi Powered Armor guy from Hoard 24 is also very helpful (N&N actually has a monster for just this piece) but I wasn't able to find much else.
Of course, horror is still horror, and even in a Weird World War 2 game not every vampire and werewolf needs to wear a swastika. Still, it would be nice if they'd put on some jackboots now and again. Also, some GIs, Tommies, Ivan partisans and Frog resistance fighters wouldn't hurt either; nor would the occasional Sherman or Tiger.
Any help?
