Is that a crawlspace under the house or did they break through the roof into the garage? Sneaky little buggers.

That's in the attic. Through the tiles, tarpaper and underlayment.
This blows

Actually, I'm thankful they did it last night instead of tonight.m
I found the fiberglass insulation all over my back patio when I was loading the car this morning, and looked up to see that.
If I'd have gone to the folks as planned and they did it tonight, I'd not known about it until Sunday night. Rain is supposed to move in about 5 AM tomorrow and we are supposed to have rain and snow Sunday.
Very fortunate they decided to do it last night instead of tonight

Do you think they smelled food or something? Usually the trash pandas around here just tip over garbage cans.

There should be no 'food' smells in the attic, but it was close to the chimney, so they may have just been trying to get to the warmth. I don't know

I'm so sorry to hear that. I would have preferred it had been possums or otters or wolves... anything but raccoons. I like raccoons and this challenges my fondness for them.

I can't stop thinking "Why?" Any chance there were nice juicy insects living in that board? I know urban raccoons have it comparatively easy, but that is a lot of time and energy invested in random destruction. I thought only human teenagers did vandalism.

Sorry I am late to this. What kind of raccoons do this? Are they the ones from Game-of-Thrones? I thought these cute animals only hide in trash cans. This is a little disaster. Now I start to see why they are seen more as a pest. Here in Austria (and Europe? Do we have them in Europe?) we have a more romantic image of them (probably as we don't have them).
Wishing you a no-fuss encounter with the insurance guys!

It's doubtful the repairs will be more than the deductible...
