I'm curious if anybody ever published a set of paper fantasy figures? I don't mean pdfs, but actual printed figures. I know Standard Games did some historicals. A set of medieval and one of ACW, but I don't think they did fantasy.
Of course, Steve Jackson did some, but I'm more interested in figures meant to be cut relatively close to the outline of the figure.
Any gurus out there?

When I was working conventions (missed the last ones) I would sell printed sheets of everything in my catalog. The last convention that I had a booth at I also offered printed and cut (thank you Silhouette) sci-fi minis in cute little tuck-boxes and all of the Elf army offerings in slightly larger boxes. What customers like best was purchasing my display minis that were already assembled.

I'm pretty sure they were adverts for such figures way back in the mid-80s in White Dwarf magazine, in the UK.

I think those are the Standard Games ones you are thinking of - the publisher's of Cry Havoc! I'm fairly sure they had at least one or two fantasy sets - featuring a giant hedgehog with a double-bladed axe and a killer penguin, if memory serves me well!

Take a look at two of the three images on the Standard Games and Publications BoardGameGeek page for one of their ads, and the boxes for their range of games and accessories. Sadly, this doesn't include shots of the paper mini sets. However, you can find images of the Saxon and Norman historical card armies online if you hunt hard enough. The Saxon army, given away free with the Battle for Wargamers Wargames Manual in 1983, can be found among the images on this blog posting (scroll about 1/3 down the page). Made the terrible mistake of actually cutting out and using mine repeatedly back in the 1980s, instead of waiting twenty years for computers and home-scanning technology to arrive - sorry folks, especially as it's long gone the way The Norman army is shown on this Ebay page (never sure how long these may last, so don't wait too long to view it!). Had no luck trying to trace either of their two packs of RPG/dungeoneering mini sets, but I did find a copy of their Dungeon Accessories Pack 1, with images of the contents, here. The only Set 2 I traced was still mint & sealed in its box, so no images of those contents, unfortunately! With an ad in White Dwarf in the mid-80s, it could instead have been for some of the early Steve Jackson Games A-frame minis, however, as mentioned in the first posting here.

Though the picture I had in my mind was of a dwarf figure - turns out it was of a dark age figure. But the fantasy set was F.1:

Are we still talking fantasy? Neat page (though I don't think there's much play-benefit to a German army running in terror) but I don't see any fantasy?
