I have had my Cameo for about 3-4 years now and this week it seems to be having trouble registering. In under a second it says Registration Failed. All it does is go right by less than an inch and then heads back to the start. At first I thought maybe my printed area was too close to the registration marks so I did a manual calibration which it says succeeded but it then cut everything wrong. And some lines were not even straight (I was cutting square counters so everything was just boxes, no curved lines).
I did a calibration test and it cut on the crosses just fine. Same for distance test.
Next, I tried a different piece that had default registration marks and the printed area was nowhere near the registration lines so it should not get confused. Same thing. A maximum of 1 second and it just says registration failed. Manual registration succeeds but again it cuts all wrong.
My light source is bright, I tried a new blade, I dusted the cutting area, etc.
Any other suggestions?
Thanks!

Sorry if these seem like dumb ideas - I’m grasping at anything. Regarding the off cuts - try with the blade set to a lot (like 1 or 2) depth. Make sure the blade is clean. Is it old? If it’s cuttig too deep, or really old, it might be dragging through the mat or getting snagged on paper.
For reg mark reading, try a test page with the marks AT LEAST .625” from the edges, and don’t make them tiny. If it fails to read the first mark, try referring the carrier sheet a little to the left or right. Sometimes that helps.
If you haven’t, turn the cutter off, wait a sec, then turn it back on.

Could you post a video of it failing? I've found lots of niggling things that can cause problems, such as placing the paper just a bit off so that a line from the carrier sheet is getting scanned. Also, if the paper isn't adhering well in the upper left corner. Also,if my sheet is printed too far askew.
A video might help us diagnose.

Thanks for the help. I will try to get a video this morning. I am hoping that since I have asked for help and people have responded that the chaos theory will apply itself and suddenly everything will work...

I don't see registration marks on the page... Are they there and I just can't see them?

Yes, they are there. The white roller and the cutter head are covering it. I shall be trying again and will try a better angle.

Hmm. I've not seen that before. Could it be blockage of the feed path? When powered off, can you pull/push the backing sheet all the way through? Check the path for anything that might move when the feed dogs activate. I've had problems on occasion where something "pops up" when the feed dogs lift the carrier sheet - for example, if the top edge of the paper isn't stuck down properly and lifts off...

So... wild stabs here 'cause I have nothing useful to offer:
When I do cutfiles, I always have them inverted, and so it starts reading on the other side of the page. I feed the page in on a portrait-sized carrier sheet, not the cameo-sized sheet. Both sides of my Letter-sized page are under the rollers.
Also, try a test where the marks have at least a .625" margin, and are not the smallest possible size.

Also try placing the paper a little "higher" on the carrier sheet, so that it's already under the head when you send the file to the cutter.

Thanks for the help. I started inspecting the paper and it does look like there is a little bend, like it is getting caught on something as it tries to roll the paper in. So I've started using painter's tape to keep the edges down and that has stopped. I have also started using defaults for the registration marks. That also seems to have helped. I have not had any issues since doing those two things.
I may try the Portrait sized carrier sheet too.
Again, thanks for the help!
