I have started working on houses for a "tropical island" for my Pirates. Here are some sketches ...
Core building 5x3" with 3x2 extension
More buildings
These should work fine for generic island cultures, obviously the pirate settelement and with a bamboo texture variation for pacific villages!
Have to see which paper minis I can find for these settings!

The first thing that came to my mind was WWII Burmese village huts. They'd also work well for Vietnam era wargaming.

I'm interested in them - they gave me the thought that virtually everything you see for fantasy stuff seems to be based on medieval Europe. I think it'd be good to have a tropical fantasy campaign.

I love these. They'd even be good for everglade bad guy hideouts in a modern campaign.

I can imagine some voodoo trolls or witches in the jungle with these huts. I think you can bend these both to historic and fantasy settings!

Here are a couple of pics of first textured prototypes. The colorful versions are for a carribbean style village.
Of course you can just print them in plain wood colors for a more generic usage and then skip the door and window closed options and build some open versions. Will do that once I finish the interior texture ...

For those who don't want the colors, if you turn them off, you get the rustic plain wood look!
Now on to weathering and aging the wood so it looks used!

I have started the interior texturing and also the weathering.
Here's a look at the plain wood version, pristine vs. weathered. As the sun bleach effect makes it very light on the colors it's a great saver on printer ink!
For the darker wood version and with colors you see the weathering effect better. Also there is a mossy layer for the humid and swampy climate zones.
And here is a view of the interior texture. I have added an open porch extention for this one.
I will make a moss build too and then start thinking about wall "ornament" details. I have received so many great ideas and I think they will add great detail to the buildings.

Without the raised floor platforms, these would work perfectly well as none-tropical-zone wooden structures too, of course - maybe with some alternate roof texture options.

Once I get around to make corrugated metal roof or wooden shingles roof there will be so many options!

Here a first layout with a couple of variations of the first building set ... I think it looks cool even without the coloured version.

Good luck with that. I started grabbing images of alligators and crocs to make a top-down figure once, because there aren't many out there
