So, my Kaspersky actually protected me from a virus, when I to no avail tried to download the Venetian Palazzo...

It is rather sad how few of his models I have on this computer...
EDIT--
And yet another distraction -- trying to find which models can be retrieved.
If you can find the link to something on Google Drive, it is probably still available for now.
If you can find a link on Deposit Files, it may or may not be there

Shame! Actually, the infected harddrives could still be read, without risk, using virtually any Linux distribution.

One of the great things about Papermau's blog wasn't just his models but the huge amount of links to so many other models. I don't see that getting rebuilt.

I don't either. I don't think I am a person who tends towards depression, but that's how I'm feeling. He's got to be feeling like he has lost one of his children

A sad day. There a few places on the web with the same dedication to the hobby as PaperMau.

The idea is possibly totally stupid, but how about we all check our archives and "donate" Mauther whatever PaperMau files we have saved? Just in case of loss...

I think he has all his files. It's just that his blog is infected.
When I saw the pathetic number of files I had on this computer, I checked to see if Wayback Machine could help, so I picked up some of my favorites, but then I felt like I was scrounging the dead body along the road. I'll probably come back to that project.
My stupid idea was to not do a Hoard one month and just have everyone build one of his models that has been in the 'Build One Day' folder on your hard drive and post photos

Vermin King: It is not a stupid idea. Mauther deserves a little tribute for his dedication. Very very sad news... Maybe one day he may think to bring online again his models...

This is a really sad loss for the whole papercraft community.
Long-shot, I fear, but if Mauther still has all his own files and the links to extant files elsewhere online, is there a possibility we might host the links on this Forum instead, and maybe set his free files up via the One Monk Downloads page? I suspect the space available and/or cost (financial and in terms of time) may make this unrealistic, but it seems better to try to do something practical than simply feel bad about what we CAN'T help with.

I had considered that myself, and we aren't the only ones. In going through the Wayback Machine, I am surprised at how many of his pieces are still available. A lot of them on Google Docs. One of his last posts on the blog was that he was migrating many of his models over to Google Docs. I hadn't planned on emailing him again until next week, if I hadn't heard from him before, but this morning, I did send him a copy of Ruben's post and the links to the Mauther Loss threads here and Papermodelers.com.
I did not realize how many folks have my email, but there have been many offers to host his files, hosting of his blog, etc. I think it is a real testament to how much he means to so many of us.

Anybody heard anything further about this?

I sent him another email 'Just checking in', but have received no response
I wish I could say something positive, but I am afraid he is in a dark place, and I wish he would talk with someone, even if it isn't me, but no one seems to be hearing anything from him

From Mauther; Guys, I think I was a little hasty in trying to start the blog from zero again.
Blogger's recent html codes are quite different from the old ones, leaving less customization options.
The result, as you can see on the new "The Papermau" blog is not as cool as the ones on the old "Papermau", besides giving a lot more work.
So I'm going to do an experiment and I need your help: I'm going to open the Papermau blog again and I ask you to visit it and see if there are any indications of viruses, if you receive any warning of your anti-viruses.
Don't forget to keep your anti-virus updated, please.
If everything is ok, the blog will continue where it left off and I will be happy to continue posting new models from friends of modelers from all over the world, as well as continuing to create my own models.
If there are signs of infection, I will close the blog again and try to resolve it, in which case, if someone wants to help me, I will gladly accept it.
I count on your collaboration in this experience. Below the link to the old Papermau blog:Old Papermau

Old Papermau seems fine for me today - no AV warnings, at least. The new site is also clean, but I can see what Mauther means. We can but hope it'll be OK, I guess, and report any problems as quickly as possible.

At least one of his models still goes through adf.ly which sets off the alarms, but he has said that he is trying to migrate things. I think we just have to give him time

Didn't try any downloads, just dropped-by the main pages. adf.ly used to trigger my AV as well, but it never caused any problems beyond that.
It looks as though only the Old Papermau site has been updated since Feb 3 today though - it has additions dated Feb 4 and 5. The new site may be just too much extra work.

This is one of those things where 'You don't know what you've got 'til it's gone'
Since the site has been back I have been joyfully looking around at all the different things there.
It really is a treasure

Hm... I don't know what I'm doing wrong, but the download of the Venetian diorama (https://papermau.blogspot.com/2012/07/venice-diorama-by-papermau-download-now.html) revolves around itself...

He probably hasn't gotten that one moved yet. That's a huge library he is trying to fix, ya know
