Interesting conversations lately. Back on the 26th, a fellow I've seen a few times, who asks about my models when he sees me, came up with an unexpected question.
"I work in video game development, and I've seen some pretty nice fan-created models from some games, so I was wondering if you would consider doing a commission for an upcoming game. I think it would be a great piece of marketing"
He was supposed to be in Thursday or Friday to show me more of what he had in mind and didn't show.
Then today, I found out an acquaintance of mine that is always asking about my models also works in the field-- video games, advertising animations and illustrations for novels, magazines and company training. Oh, yeah, and architectural renderings. Needless to say he has been using various computer 3d modeling programs for over 30 years and is a bit surprised at things I accomplish without them. He really encouraged me to get going on Blender. He doesn't use it, but is familiar with it. He thinks that with two weeks of playing with it, along with my 'artist's eye', I could be very good.
Okay, here's the odd part. Over at Papermodelers, Alan G is working on a London General B-Type Bus from the early 1900's. He posted some images of buses and omnibuses, and I refered him to a couple posts here for other images I'd found. He also referred to my artist's eye.
I have to admit, squirmydad's VerminKing's Labs page looks pretty impressive, but it's kinda like FacePlant, only showing highlights, not the projects that stall or the less-than-successful projects. It also doesn't show how often I have an acceptable model, and I want to improve it, only incorporating a new error when I print it off, and having several hours fixing something that wasn't broken before.
I know, I've been saying it for years, but I really think I need to get a 3d modeling program going so I won't have to sledgehammer my model designs. The next two and a half weeks are going to be crazy, but if I don't make myself accountable, I'll never get it done. So, if I don't have this post updated in a month, someone remind me
