While it is not a papercraft project, I have posted my first product to DriveThruRPG, "The Cyclops." I want to express my thanks to the many members of this forum who have given me feedback and support. This is a wonderful community. It can be found at www.drivethrurpg.com/product/322024/The-Cyclops-A-Player-Character-Race-For-OSR-Games?manufacturers_id=17194"So, the obvious question is, why is there a need for another Cyclops race option for the original edition of the World’s Most Popular Roleplaying Game? That’s a fair question. The answer has its roots way back in my childhood. Growing up in the 1970’s, some of the earliest stories I remember my father sharing with me were those of Greek mythology, and I loved the stories of Odysseus. In particular, I was quite taken with Polyphemus the cyclops as a monster. He was such a monster, in fact, that the heroes could not defeat him even by blinding him, but instead had to outsmart him in order to escape.
Since that time, I have seen many interpretations of the one-eyed giant theme, in literature, art, and cinema. One thing was always misplaced in my opinion was the giant eye in the middle of the forehead. I realized that this would be the obvious place for it to be, because the bridge of the human nose does not allow the placement of the eye right in the middle and right in line with where the eyes normally are. And none of those depictions have really sat right with me. Fast forward to 2006, when Privateer Press released the Hordes miniatures game, with a whole new depiction of the cyclops race. Big, armored, clearly much more civilized than the fur-clad barbarians of my youth, these were creatures to be respected and feared! And they got into my mind. And so I pondered for many years…"
