First of all - Hi!
I'm new to the forum here, but used to be very active on the Juniorgeneral forum quite some time ago making stuff - love everyone's work, and looking forward to contributing myself (if I can solve my below hurdles!)
I am looking to transition from pixel art to a more detailed, 'realistic' style of figure creation, but am having trouble fully understanding the relationship between DPI/PPI, and the canvas/pixel size that I need to be using when drawing figures.
So far I have been harrassing Antohammer with some questions (and I thank him for his help/patience!), as I am looking to use a similar style to his work, but I thought it would be a good idea to open this up to the wider forum in case any other amateurs are making the jump from MS Paint to something more complex, and have similar questions.
I have done a fair bit of reading, but am still none the wiser - should I be drawing my figures two or three times the size (28mm) I want the figures to be, and then resizing the finished image before printing? Or should I be drawing even larger than that?
I have read some guides suggest you should draw double or four times the intended size, and then halve or quarter the scale when done, but I have also seen tutorials suggest that you should focus more on multiplying your intended print size by the DPI you want to print at, and then drawing at that scale.
Suffice to say I am finding the relationship between pixel size, DPI, canvas size and print size very confusing.
I am using Paint.net, but presume that the basic principles hold the same whatever programme is being used - can anyone spare a moment to clear this up for me so I don't have to waste time drawing figures that are scaled incorrectly?
