While building the Spezieria for my Venice Carnevale table, I realized that it was literally impossible to roll dice without hitting something. Other Carnevale players were buying Dice Towers from TT Combat, so I decided to kit-bash this beauty

The first step was deciding which buildings would combine to create my model. The main tower would be the Watchtower from the Venice Towers set. The internal workings and courtyard would be from the Historic Dice Tower. As these are both Finger and Toe Models, I could guarantee compatibility of parts.

Using the dice tower as a guide, I removed the wall section with the door from the watchtower. I put this to one side for later

Next step, prepping the upper turret and courtyard. After some thought, and consultation, I realized the hatch would be too close to the corner. The solution was modifying the dice tower floor to give an open hatch near the center. The turret floor and inner walls were glued to 2mm board. The same was done with the base and the inner walls of the courtyard

I then attached the turret outer walls

The inner walls were trimmed and fitted. They were then edged with grey paint to match the stone top

I added the bottom from the Venetian tower top . The Historic Dice Tower came with a wood effect frame to fit it to the tower. I felt this did not look Venetian enough. My solution was a replacement made from Trachyte edging for a Riva.

Next the corner posts were fitted and the roof added

After a brief crisis of confidence, I began construction on the tower itself. This diagram was my guide for fitting the ramps

To minimize the amount of white visible when the tower was in use, I lined the sides with extra marble panels, printed on paper.

A bit of white was visible through the hatch. To solve this, I added a strip of brick at the top of the ramp

The courtyard in place. I cut out the void over the courtyard doors and edged in grey. The tabs attaching courtyard to tower were coloured black. A few small changes were needed to complete the build

The original base looked a little rough for Venice. The solution was some David Graffam cobbles, printed on paper and stuck to the base

Finally, the false wall to hide the ramp. Sometimes it doesn't need to be a dice tower. Cut from a Venetian tower wall and adjusted to slide in from the top

Slide out the false wall and lift the roof. You are ready to drop some dice.
