Earlier than last year, but still a late start FH 206 January - Desert Denizens FH 207 February - Forces of Darkness FH 208 March - WWII Ambushes FH 209 April - Jungle Adventures FH 210 May - Desert Outpost FH 211 June - Stellar Navies FH 212 July - Pirates! FH *** August - Papercuts 2022 FH 213 September - Fairy Folk FH 214 October - Knight Out - Around the Castle FH 215 November - Space Base FH 216 December - Aftermath - Post-Apocalyptic Last year's Hoards were -- FH 195 January - 2020 Hoard of the Procrastinators FH 196 February - Gondola Wars (Venice themed) FH 197 March - Another Dimension - Anywhere not Earth-like FH 198 April - Sorcery and Enchantment FH 199 May - Solar System Colonization - Mars, Luna, and beyond FH 200 June - Battle Field Props - Any Era or Genre FH 201 July - Magnificent Cloudscapes FH *** August - Papercuts 2021 FH 202 September - Halloween Nightmares FH 203 October - About the Castle - For Sale! - Markets and Stores FH 204 November - Christmas Hoard - Santa's Workshop FH 205 December - Hoard of the Procrastinators 2021 In 2019 we decided to alternate between Halloween and Christmas, and yet we did both last year. You can read last year's discussion at cardboard-warriors.proboards.com/thread/10544/2021-forum-hoardsAs we are in full swing on Medicare Annual Enrollment Period, my brain is already turning to mush. I usually try to give us a jump start on ideas, but real life has my remaining brain cells working in other directions. As usual, themes I thought would be gloriously full, ended up spare. Other themes that I thought would need me to supply filler material took off with a life of their own. Thanks to one and all who make this possible each year. I do think we should continue with About the Castle. So who is going to kick off the discussion?

I do have some "Legion Etrange" that only need backs before I share and Srgt. Markoff would like some arab cavalry to go with them. Maybe "Desert Denizens" for January?

Second Moon Base (maybe expand to generic off world bases?)
Second, I suggest Desert Outpost.

Once I recover a bit, maybe I could go back and work on the cargo container desert outpost I started ages ago

I watched the Martian again last night, hoping for some inspiration. But we really need to get some more ideas posted.
If we do Desert Denizens in January, would we want to do a Desert Outpost in a later hoard in the same year? I think 'Yes', but I'm not sure.
Space Camp/Base is always fun.
But we really need more ideas. Especially ideas with examples.

Knight Out - Part of the Castle series with an emphasis on props, scenery and characters from a Knightly tournament.

[...] But we really need more ideas. Especially ideas with examples. Need more ideas? Okay, then... Well I'm not sure - maybe (and most probably?) this topic/theme has been around before? Anyway - many games (and adventurers) need representatives of the evil, dark side of the force - "bad guys" as opponents - so maybe something like this (de facto classics of the genre), so: Followers of dark powersVarious kinds of representatives of evil forces - and accompanying scenery elements and props and even maps/tiles (check out the attached examples). Minis:
Cultists, Priests, Evil Casters, Dark Mages and their followers/pupils/students, then corrupted believers and of course various accompanying creatures and minions? + Maybe also some (trapped/enchanted) demons summoned from the depths? Scenery/Props:
All sorts of altars, sacrificial sites, statues, power/mysterious artifacts, secret passages, portals to other dimensions and circles of reality Maps/Tiles:
Magic circles, secret signs drawn on walls and floors etc. Overall - a very broad theme/subject - can be "played" definitely for more than one hoard. You will probably describe it better and add more ideas and details (Then of course such topic also asks for representatives of good/holy side of power, with all sort of paladins, sacred priests, monks etc. along with the appropriate elements of the scenery/props.) NOTE: Minis shown at preview are taken from various PERMES sets available at WargameVault and DriveThruRPG. Visit to find even more awesome Historical, Fantasy, DIY, Easy Scenery sets and bundles!

Stellar Navies - 2d or 2.5d starships, lots of great examples of build methods in the Star Trek Starships download area. Crewmembers and alien races, space junk, meteorites, space stations, Death Stars.
Aftermath - Post-apocalyptic; ruins, mutants, gasoline tribes, vault dwellers, radioactive wastelands, defective robots still performing in a Renaissance Faire for 500 years.
Killer Doodles! - Literally doodles, but they have to have a front and back so it's a good drawing exercise.

And I just finished up my calls for the night. Don't have to be in bed for another 67 minutes.
Sorry that I am not that much help right now.
I'm going to watch a little of Captain Blood before bed. Is it too early to be doing a pirate theme again?

I never did finish the shipwreck. And I would like to have a go at a galleon some time.
I don't know if you are familiar with the movie, but many call the sword fight between Rathbone and Flynn as the greatest in movie history. I don't know about that, but it surely deserves to be in the top ten, if not five.
Having not been raised in an era of slavery, I find it interesting that they put men to work doing what would more efficiently be accomplished with beasts. I guess the beasts were considered more valuable

I have seen that film, many times since I was young nipper. That's a great fight, perhaps it could be re-staged in miniature over a shipwreck.

November might be appropriate for the Moon Camp/Moon Base Hoard, given December 2022 (already taken) will be the 50th anniversary of the final Apollo Moon landing (Apollo 17). The Moon Base idea sounds good to me; I know at the time we were all tending to assume Moon Bases were going to be real things within another decade - for example the Gerry Anderson "UFO" and "Space 1999" TV series'.

Actually we could do the Procrastinators Hoard in November, move it up a month and add some pressure, call it the "No More Procrastinating!" Hoard. Then celebrate December 2022, the 50th anniversary of the Moon Landing (!), in style.

Honestly, we could have a whole year of Pirates. Pirates - always YES Yep! Moon Camp - send your kids to the Moon this summer. Hmm, might be nteresting But IMHO maybe a more general aproach / with more Sci-Fi - not only as a summer camp for kids? Jungle Adventures, yes! Lost civilizations! Snakes and snakemen, reptiles and reptile men, riverboats, hunters, killer hippos, tribe of the cheetah people, big trees, swamps, way too many vines and hidden Nazi bunkers. YES! But maybe not only African Jungle - as South America and Asia are also interesting? Or Conquistadors searching for the City of GoldYES, YES, YES! --- Regarding the Procrastinators Horde - I always thought this should be a CLOSING topic for the past / previous year. Thus published at the beginning of the new year, so latecomers will have a looong holiday period to dig-out and finish their minis and/or projects. Or even EXTRA, 13th release kinda " 2021 Procrastinators Horde", but released in January 2022. Howgh!

Lets not forget about reptile woman. It seems that woman are underrepresented in non human species other than PC's. In many tribal cultures woman played important roles, positions of power. Also, for a raiding party, scouts maybe, perhaps perimeter guard, sure but, if you encounter a village it's not going to be one female and a bunch of dudes. Yes, I recognize that in reptiles it is often that way, but remember these are anthropomorphic (which one could argue negates my next sentence, but just because they're anthropomorphic doesn't necessarily mean that they are suddenly mammals ). Since reptiles don't have mammary glands perhaps another subtle way of delineating gender could be applied. A difference in dress, different ornamentation, slight differences in body shape/skin color ect... My drawing and graphic skills are virtually non existent, so I can only offer this as food for thought. Not to be semantic, and or, pedantic, but snakes are reptiles.

Well, these fantasy ones surelly can!) [...]

My take on lizardfolk is that there is no need to distinguish sex. They can tell each other apart somehow but there is no reason for players to be able to. I can't spot the lady crocodiles in the zoo either, but I know there are some in there. If you are really gung ho on the idea for some reason this is what wikipedia has to say about it: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sexual_dimorphism#:~:text=Amphibians%20and%20non%2Davian%20reptiles%5Bedit,of%20aging)%20in%20potential%20mates.%5B62%5D

I guess my idea was to make them distinguishable, but only slightly. That way a character who has never encountered them before won't necessarily be able to tell them apart, whereas a character who has spent time with a tribe whether it be encounters, interaction, would be able to discern. This could allow the gm to add certain elements of confusion or misunderstanding ect... to the game.
