I have to admit, I have not dug around Inkscape to closely yet, but I'm wondering if you can use texture images and fill colors?
Say I have a chainmail texture, which is a tiles image. I want to be able to fill a section of chainmail on a figure with this texture, can it be done? JIM

I've not explored it properly, but I've just had a bit of a play and a look at the manual. If you look on the menu under Object>Pattern>Objects to Pattern, you can convert a selected object (including an imported bitmap) into a pattern. You should then be able to use it as the Fill for any other object.

You'd first have to CLONE the texture to match the size of the object you want to fill, then CLIP it to the object. At least, that is how I would do it with the limited knowledge I have at the moment. I'll do a bit more research and see what other options there are. DaveA

That's how I did the shield on my ratman....... it can do texture fills and pattern fills, it's a bit fiddly, but as the software is free

As long as there is a workable solution. Although I don't see giving up my current software just yet. I would like to be able to have download pallets and such for Inkscape. JIM
