Hi to everybody! ^_____^ I am new here and I am not english so first of all sorry for my bad english. My dear sis showed me that site and I got interested in making figures or how u guys call them. P= Anyway whats popped up in my mind was horses for the first time. Well I really rarely draw horses so I hope they will fine. ^^ I also dont know if the poses are good or not. I already do 3 horse and I plan to do more 3. I did both side of them. I will show u both. I love doing them. =D So the first one is the original unicorn: Tell me if you dont like it and wanna a better one. ^^ or you dont like the simple pose. And I know that the two back legs of it is a bit big. =( Maybe I really should do another one. xD Ok, the second one is a "special" unicorn for those who dont like the original unicorn ideas: Well I see that it has problem with the first right leg just dunno how to fix it. =/ I never draw legs like it.... ^^; And I also dont know if this pose work or not? Ok, the third one is the "nightmare" unicorn: It looks strange. ;D But I plan to color flame on it, thats why it doesnt have tail and mane -if its the right word for it. P=-. I also plan to do flames to its hoofs so it will has a bit bigger sole-if its the right word for it-. And I also dont know if this pose work or not... =/ So I hope you like it guys. ^^ And arent they tooo circumstantial? ^^; Every critic and comment are very welcome! ^____^ :)Thanks! ^^ Oh and I will mirror them whith adobe later. Byez! ;D

Fantastic anatomy! Very dynamic poses as well. Oh, and welcome!
be sure to look around and read up how to make these into figures, there is a lot more than just drawing pictures of the figs, but seeing you already understand the flat feet for the tabs, and the reverse side art, you are already 50% there.
Just continue what your doing, when you finish a couple projects, I'll be more than happy to create your own board to keep things organized. feel free to create new topics for any NEW projects.
I bet you could do some incredible monsters! JIM

Oh my! That is unbelievable. You really do have a talent with horse anatomy. I tried that once, even got several how to tips and such, but was never that great at it. They looked mechanical. These have a great sense of dynamics and life. I really envy you and so does your sister.

I'm envious! My jaw dropped to the floor! In just a few hours after my tutorial too! No need to change anything on the first horse, and big hooves are no problem, considering that it is going to be a small piece of paper that it is going to stand on. Actually Jim (OneMonk) and Jabbro as well suggests us to exaggerate the hands and legs, and forget about anatomy. But you, don't change a thing! They are amazing. I'm so so jealous of your skills, I think you are way better in drawing then I am. Let me hope that you have caught up on coloring skills too, and these are going to be... just WOW! On the last horse though, you might want to eliminate showing the "sole" of the back hoof. I don't know, what you guys think about that? Will it look like he is going to trip? I'm not sure myself Urm. I know it is not nice to pick on your English. But I'll because I had no idea what you were trying to say with the word "circumstantial". I blame your dictionary, but it wants to mean "filled with too much details". Just so people understand what you meant. And no I don't think that these paper figures are too busy with details. I'm so proud of you! Hey everyone she is my sister! Anita

Very lovely and dynamic. The compression and extension on the muscle groups are very good. The strong sweeping lines convey a feel like that of coiled springs full of potential energy full of power and grace.
Love the demon/dragon head. The line work is just right!
Well done.

Hey xtea! Welcome to the forum! You are quite the artist! I love what you've done here... But my daughter loves it even more! She loves the unicorn and asked if you're going to color it pink About the last one... Anita brought up the point about the bottom of the hooves showing... It kind of looks like the horse is leaning or falling to one side. I love the idea of a nightmare unicorn and agree with Jim... I bet you could make some AWESOME monsters! Welcome again, and I can't wait to see what you come up with next! Onemonkeybeau

Wow!.....I mean WOW! I don't think the thread name of "Horse" does this subject justice though. These are just fantastic. I can't wait to see the colours.
Jabbro Do you live in some sort of Artist commune? Were All the greatest fantasy artists are gathered in one place to brainstorm, create and single handedly save the world of paper miniatures?
I think the "hairless" Nightmare unicorn is my favorite.

Naw, Scruff, I just happened to marry and artist. Come to think of it, there are quite a few artist in the family. Personally, I think I was trained by my father so he could get some better SuperWorld art for his campaigns (Much like Josedominguez is doing). Unfortunately I did not get good until a little late. Anita on the other hand, has been drawing with her sister for years. I did not expect to see Xtea here, but I am glad she is interested. I honestly did not twist either of their arms. I have just been bragging on Jim's work and how much fun the hobby has been to everyone I know. I guess they listened. As you can see, Anita is excellent at digital coloring, which I have not even picked up until recently. Xtea is just as good. I just got lucky, Scruff. That is all. ;D

Oh wow! I haven't expected that much interest. But I am sooooo happy now! ;D so: OneMonk alias Jim:-> Thank you so much! I am really glad you like this set. Oh, and I got a tutorial for my dear sister, Anitangel before I started doing it. Jabbro and Anita inspired me to do it. I love it, made me feel nostalgic when Anita and I drew horses ourselves and then cut them, and played with them. xDD Oh, and I'd love to draw monsters. I'm planning to do a wolf-hellhound set after this. xD Jabbro-> Thanks Bro! ;D I am really happy you like it. And I cannot draw horses by myself either. I have used reference for it. For example I cannot draw hooves without reference xD And we are a small artist family. ;D You are so kind. I am happy knowing you! ^^ and I am happy that you became my Bro. ^^ Oh and I must say thank to you for showing me your awesome dragon set! I loved it! That, and Anita's wonderful angel and turtle set inspired me to join this project. Anitangel-> *hug you* ;D Thanks! Thanks for the tutorial also. Without you I'd have never started doing this. *hugs* And without you I have never started to draw. You know I have always wanted to play with you and not to draw. xDD I am so glad you are proud of me. :3 Because in my opinion you are the one who can drew better than me. I know you think it's not true. But let's not argue about it. Thanks again! I love you. And I will erease the sole on the nightmare unicorn, thanks for pointing it out. ^ ^ And for helping me in translating also. Floyd-> Thanks! I am glad you like it. Onemonkeybeau-> Thanks! ;D Oh, and thanks for you daughter too! I planned to color it with white and blond, but I can also do a pink version. I will see. And I will delete the sole of the back hoof. Thanks. And I love drawing monsters although it's true I rarely draw them. xD I prefer drawing humans. droffset, Sirrob01, parduz, madkingchristopher-> Thanks guys! I am glad you like them. :3 Scruff-> Thanks! ;D I am happy you like it. Hehe ;D I think Jabbro tells everything what I would like to tell about our little artist family, who plan to save the world of paper miniatures. I just got interested in it too when I saw Jabbros awesome dragon set and my lovely sis, Anita's wonderful Angel and turtle set. They inspired me to join in doing miniatures. And I like drawing horse, so thats popped up in my mind for the first time. And the "hairless" unicorn will get flame hair. I wont let it bald. Thanks again everybody! ^^ I will try my best on coloring them and to the last 3. And sorry that I am too slow. I need too much time for coloring. ^^; Thanks!

Hello Xtea
Your unicorns are awesome.
I've banned my daughter from sitting on my knee whilst I read the forums at the moment, between your unicorns and your sisters angels and especially the turtles I can see I won't get much other model building done!! My daughter is heavily into animals (she even has a pet giant snail!) and fairies and stuff!!
once again welcome and keep on drawing please!

magpiestear-> Wow! ;D Thanks a lot! I am really glad you like this set too. Thanks! ^^ and for the welcome too. And I love animals also, okay I am sure that I am not that big fan as your doughter. ;D Okay, so i know that it isn't finished yet but I would like to show you what I made today. I started to color the original unicorn's first side. Well I must apologize for those who expect a better coloring from me, but I am not that good in coloring. =( Anyway I try my very best on it! It was hard to choose the colors, tell me if you dont like it, I mean you wanna him more blond... I put a lot of details on it. Especially to the hair although because of the resize you cannot relly see it. What I would like to ask is that I dunno what size should I resize the final piece? Please tell me. Dont know which black bottom -sorry dunno how you guys call it- should I used for this and also the others. Anyway sorry that I am that slow, but I dont really like coloring, and if I start it I cannot stop put on more and more details on it. xDD Okay and the last thing I want to say is ... damn I forget it. xDD Ummm what was that? *thinking* Oh! Yeah about the texturing. I heard from my sis, that you guys like textures on the figures, well I never use textures on my drawings because I cannot use them. xD But I give a try on a fur texture here. Well in that resized pic you can hardly see it, but he really get fur! xDD please, enjoy: Thanks for everything! Now I will go to eat because I totally hungry and than I continoue with the other side... OMG *faint* and sry for my bad English ^^;

Very pretty. I like the "fur" I think you have done a good job. As for the black base. Shrink it down proportionally to a human (I've sent you a piece to compare it to) that is about a head taller than the human. After you have gotten that, just see which base I gave you fits under them. It's probably going to be more than 23, maybe even 40 mm base.
Good luck,
Anita

It looks like you are well on your way. Usually resizing first helps you know how much detail you can put on there just by what is visible and what is not. When I am working I usually back off to 50% and see if the change is noticeable. The other thing that helps is doing a few print tests. For details like fur, high contrast helps. Looking at what you have painted so far, I doubt you'll have a problem.

Anita-> Thanks! Glad you like it. ^^ And for the help. It will be really small though but Okay, it will lost all of its details. Beau-> Thanks! With tablet it's not that hard and of course there are a lots of practice behind my "skills" I think I cannot color again with mouse. Jabbro-> Thanks! ;D Yeah, I thought on resize it but... it is easier to color in bigger size, of course it needs more much time. =/ And I cannot made a print test, I don't have color ... ahh dunno how to call it in English- ink? So I cannot print in color just in blak-and white. I dont wanna buy color ink 'cuz it is expensive. =/ _____ And I must apologize again! T_T I am sooo lazy. Sorry. =( I really wanted to color the other side today but I must do a lot of retouch with the lineart of the other side and redraw it with tablet totally sour my fancy for color it. U__U I hope its understandable.. ^^;

I have printed it out to see if it keeps the shades. I think it does very good. Here is a photo of it (I haven't cropped it). s977.photobucket.com/albums/ae256/Anitangel/?action=view¤t=unicorn-preview.jpgI hope you are working at 300 dpi, and didn't forget about that. To make sure, click on image size in adobe, and you will see the resolution. If that is not 300 then set it to 300. It is tons easier to color when the figure is shrunk. I'd suggest scaling them down to mini scale first and then color. You say you are more comfortable coloring the big poster size, because you haven't tried it smaller. It is a lot faster that way. And coloring wouldn't be a chore. Also here is a base, because your figure needed a bigger one than 40 mm. It is 48 mm: s977.photobucket.com/albums/ae256/Anitangel/?action=view¤t=basecopy.pngDon't worry so much about the outline, when you have it scanned it in grayscale just up the contrast, pull the bars on the levels and you get it black again. When it is shrunk the little mistakes disappear. Anita

Congratulations on getting your own board, Xtea. The printout turned out well. If I were you I might raise the contrast (or darken the shadows) on the mane just to get it to stand out a little better. Other than that i think you will have a great first figure! ;D
