Alrighty, lets say I wanted to make a sp@ce mar1ne model, based on an actual photo, taken from a website that I won't name that begins with "games" and ends with "workshop". How do you guys make the backs? I can see taking the photo, and playing around in photoshop till it looks sufficiently cartoony, but how on earth are you making your backs? Is this a bit of software, or is this all hand-drawn?

Curse those of you with artistic talent! Curse you, and thrice be damned! *waves a magic wand*

Since I am not as talented as many on this forum, I work with layers, bringing them front, sending them back, till it looks like *something* then, I use the tools to sharpen and be more accurate... But if you only have a front photograph, you'll have no other way than taking the silhouette of the mini, mirroring it and draw the back... no simple way there I think, but perhaps other people have a special wand "making mini's back +5" (If that's the case, send me a mail...

...ok there is a way but it depends on how you see your work... I guess since you take GaWo marines, that you won't sell your fig (you can try and be crushed by GW lawyers army...)... So...
Take your front mini, mirror it and fill the back in black (back in black...good rock n'Roll ;D )
You then have a front with the figure and a back in shadow... as I said, it depends how you see your work...this method is sufficient to play good games but it's no so visually appealing...
