I was pretty much computer cut off this weekend so I couldn't work on my hoard beast so I finished off the rough drawings for my hero's. There not perfect some are missing hair and some of there arms are slightly to long but thought I'd post them. I always liked the old ral partha male/female miniature poses and drew these in pairs also forced me to practice both male and female: Barbarian Druid Thief Monk Sorcerer Thought and comments are welcome, sorry about the small size I over shrunk them. I wont work on these again till I've finished the monster for the hoard.

I like the designs, Sirrob. These will make excellent player's characters. Just a word of advice to help you with the male/female body types. Men tend to be triangular and taper to the waist. Women on the other hand are more hourglass shaped. They go in under the rib cage and come out again just above the hips. There is a cool drawing technique with two ovals that helps. This can illustrate it better than I can: Female Drawing TutorialYou've got it for the most part. Just offering some tricks to make it easier.

Really like what you have so far. The Druid in particular and that shield is cool. Work on refining your anatomy, these have a real nice 'old school' look to them.

Yay! You are making female and male versions! My suggestions are: - The monk lady --being a monk-- should wear something less revealing. The guys usually wrap themselves up in long long sashes. You don't have to do that for the girl, but I'd not show her tummy.
- The druid guy should get the antlers, and for the druid girl it's optional. Just like real elks.
- And maybe the sorcerer could be fancier with a longer coat (not cape) or even robe and a pointy hat.

Jabbro - thanks for the link, I really struggle with the female form..not that the males are much better...more practice required. Floyd - thanks yes anatomy work required, I also struggle with faces and hair... Anitangel - I might thicken the belt area a little on the monks, I'd drawn a few of the cloaked ones by then and wasn't looking forward to trying to do more draped clothes..maybe kung-fu master would be a better title for them. I have antlers for the male druid there just on another piece of paper bit odd but I wanted to practice without rubbing a hole in the paper with my eraser Thanks for the comments all much appreciated, I'm off to work on the colouring of my monster for the hoard .

Nice looking drawings - lots of details on the first 3 pairs. But i have some difficulties accepting a druid wielding a sword (dont think i have ever played a fantasy RPG or computer game were druids were allowed to use swords). Maybe give him a staff or a club instead.

Well...in Shannara Druids use swords. Thats probably a terrible example, but...there it is. D&D they use scimitars (or used to). Good sketches, though!

Great work ! You've captured the iconic look of each class well. They are easilly identified as what they are. The posing of the the Druids, Thieves, and sorcerers is nice and dynamic. The posing of the Barbarians though looks off. Their bodies look at rest but they have thier sword arms raised. Maybe have the sword arms at rest as well ? I like the look of the Monks, but years of martial training makes me hate thier stance. I can hear my instructor's voice yelling "bend your knees more and raise your left hand" ;D

Your right sword down looks much more in keeping with the rest of his stance

Shelved at the moment, I've actually been practicing my drawing using some Okumarts books (very good books) as guidance. I will be re-doing these but what I plan on doing is: Standard male body Standard female body standard Male Heroic Body Standard Female Heroic body 3-4 different heads for each Once the above are done I can pretty much create any human mini I like but just drawing up clothing and placing it over the top. No idea when I'll get to these, Frog, turtles and bears have me a little tied up at the moment

These all look really great. The anatomy will come with practice. You'll notice that you just "figure out" the body shapes after a while and it all gets much easier. I like how your breaking the figures into parts. Also you can do a lot of tweaking in the vectors once you start tracing. I look forward to seeing some of these finished.
You guys are making me really jealous, I don't have enough free time/energy right now to design, and I know I'm rusty, I can't wait to get back into this with your guys. JIM

Jim I wish I had more time to practice and get my drawing right. But between your great stuff and all the existing great stuff from others, somedays I sit stuck in what will I build next mode ...let alone get some drawing done. Maybe if I could ditch work.... ;D
