I'm trying to use some minis from the free sets and the hoards for my kid first gameboard project (YEAH!). He wants the minis not just folded, but built "around" on a 3mm foamcore: he likes them more with the added thickness (and i tend to agree). But i have some difficult aligning them on the 2 sides of the foamcore sheet, 'cause i just have the "red folding line" as reference when i glue the now cutted sides. While i understand that they're not designed for this purpose, i think that the advantage of paper minis is they allowance for different uses. So i'm asking if it will be possible to add a rectangle around the mini "tray", as a layer in the PDF. I can cut it exactly, and then i have at least 2 sides that i can align to the foamcore sheet.... i hope to have been clear enough.

Not sure I understand this one. Maybe a picture would help. Wouldn't cutting on the red line be just as effective for the alignment, or is there something else you are doing besides putting foam board between the layers?

Ok, sorry This is a ugly import from a Hoard, but it works as an example: If i can get the 2 rectangles i drawn here, i can cut them and i have 2 sides (bottom and left, as example) that i can use to glue them on the foamcore, aligning the sides of the paper to the sides of the foamcore sheet. Without them i have only the "folding" red line as reference. This is just a purpose 'cause i guess that it should be trivial to add the rectangles while producing the final PDF... but i may be completly wrong.

The bases tell you their size (20mm, 25mm, etc..) You can just mark the foamcore before you glue the models to it.
You could also glue one side, cut along the base line, mark it, then glue the other side.
Adding layers to every future project is alot of work for something that has a simple work around.
I think the difficulty your having is that your trying to wrap it around the foam core, instead of just cutting it into 2 pieces and aligning them on each side.

I think the difficulty your having is that your trying to wrap it around the foam core, instead of just cutting it into 2 pieces and aligning them on each side. Au contraire, i cutted it before. But I did'nt think to mark the foam, so the miniature sides are misaligned on the left-right axis, but perfecly on the "ground". I did'nt know that adding a layer requires so much work, so pls forget this post

I think I understand the concept, now. You are using the rectangular box to just figure out how to cut out the two halves and line them up. I have to admit, the boxes would be a bit of a problem to create. I am not sure if it will fit in most layouts.
I'll have to think on this. In the mean time, you may be better off using the page borders as your boxes.

Thats actually a brilliant idea. If you had boxes around the front and back that lined up 100% perfect, the images inside them would also (assuming they were aligned perfectly as well). This would make attaching them to matte board or foamcore a fairly simple process. Glue one side, cut, align other sides box then trim!
