One thing I had in mind is to use overhead transparencies for a certain type of minis.
For example Wotc use for their prepainted plastic minis (elementals or angels) often some semi- transparent plastics. I really like this approach. Its beautiful to look at. Especially the more modern minis from 2009 are looking really good with this transparent plastic (eg. the chillborn, the spectre or the angel of valor)
So how do you think are the chances to apply a similar effect for onemonk minis? Printing out on overhead transparencies?
Worldworks had a similar idea with the sailsystem of its maiden ship. I never assembled it, but I read about using transparencies for the rigging of the ship. So I guess it should work.
Or how about mixing transparent parts of a mini and traditional cardboard? Eg. a fire archon has a cardboard head, chest and weapon while the rest of the mini is overhead transparency?

You weren't the only one thinking about that. Somebody has already put up a thread with sample pictures with good results of the mix of transparent and carstock. Who was it? Hands up! Anita

Was it Darkmook? With the flames in his Anime inspired Horsed release?
I've seen it used effectively on a variety of projects. One was Bug wings for EbblesMiniatures flying insect from his Bug War releases.
I've also seen it used for window transparencies(also at WWG) and Chainlink fences.

I was thinking of making the ghosts for my undead army on transparecies. Figured I'd just print the fronts. Haven't got around to it becuase I wanted to make a few more ghosts, for more variety before I did it.
I do already use transparencies to print WWG chain link fences, and I'm pretty happy with the effect.
The only downside to using transparencies is that they aren't as rigid as double thick and glues 110lb cardstock.

Thanks for the info. Hm. I browsed through his subforum but I could not detect it. Is his transparency thread still on the onemonkforums?

So you can do a "sandwich" where you have a colored transparency in between 2 blank transparencies. Maybe could this have more "glossy"effect?

Great. Now I will try some to give some of anitas angels transparency wings. (as soon as I am back at the printer in my company)
A question to sithcundman. How did you make the transition from the paper to the the transparency? Just inserting some transparency from the flame as sandwich between the 2 paper layers of the girl? If yes doesnt this bulge up the corner of the paper girl a little bit?

Good find. I had the model right but the wrong person whom implemented it. FYI, backlighting the models would show the transparency better in the photos.
The angel wings are an interesting idea. I'll be interested to see how it turns out.

I was thinking of using transparencies to lift flying models off the floor, like stirges and bats.
Anyway, how would one go about printing on transparency? Ink better or laser better? Paper selection set to automatic, or is there another option you have to choose?

I think in general anything printed with a laser is more durable than it's inkjet counterpart.
One thing to keep in mind, they sell different types of trnasparecies for inkjet and laser printers. I don't know if it really makes a difference. While I was at staples there were seperate transparencies for inkjet, photocopies, B&W laser, and Color Laser. The prices and quantitiy per box varied wildly from as few as 30 to as many as 100 in the smae size package.
I riisked it and cheaped out and bought the 100 pack for photocopiers. So far I haven't had any issues printing color on it with my Brother Laser printer.

So the question had been answered. I knew it was done on several figures: on Jim's metal golem as well as Darkmook's girl, that is why I was sure that it wasn't Adam. Now I know it was by sithcundman. Thanks for raising your hand I didn't want to look through the whole forum for it. And it did happen, I read through the forums and remember things Anita
