So since I am currently unemployed and can not afford to buy models AND because the Warmachine group in Seattle is awesome and don't care if you proxy EVERYTHING, I am working on some PaperMachine figures. I am using the pictures from their website as they were nice enough to put up 150dpi PNG files that look very nice. Not sure if posting them directly could get Jim in trouble so I wont just yet (not much done yet anyway) but if anyone is interested, let me know. Will at least update with descriptions of whats done.

Got them done! Mechanithralls, Brute Thralls, Scrap Thralls, Necrosurgeon and Stitch Thralls. All ready. The backs are dark shaded versions of the front, so they are not perfect, but they will MORE than work for proxying. Now I just need to edit some Jim textured bases tot he right sizes with a nice border to denote front facing and arc and I am all set. I would love to share them, but PhotoBucket resizes and I don't want Jim getting in trouble. So for the time being, if you want them, let me know! <edit>Yeah, definitely not posting this anywhere. Have an acquaintance at PP on my FaceBook and he thought it was best not to have them up. However, I think the modified bases are safe.

Got the first one built tonight! Ran out of ink so got it printed at Kinkos on 110lb coverstock. $1.38 and totally worth it.

Whoa... that looks pretty good... I like how you setup the arcs on the base too...

The ONLY thing that turned out a bit so-so was that I made the backs dark versions of the front and they came out a bit darker than I'd like. Does not really hurt since it is the back and the fronts look great.

Sorry to hear you are unemployed Kane. Hope that changes for you soon!
Wow. So far these look great.
You're using the photos from the War-machine site to create your proxies?

That I am. Edit out the base, up the contrast and brightness, add a black border and there they are!

Thinking about doing some other factions as well to get my non playing friends interested. The game really is fantastic and amazingly deep.

Yes, nice job! I've always like the WarMachine IP, but, frankly I've never invested the time to get really good at painting and all that lead adds up. Throw in a family, and, sheesh...no time. Paper WarMachine figures would actually get me interested in playing the game. Not what the publisher intended, perhaps, but I don't mind buying game books. ;D It's the mountains of unpainted lead that gets me down. Keep up the good work! I'd like to see what you do with the other factions.

Having been inspired by your experiments I decided to give it a try, starting with the Legion of Everblight from Hordes. Funny and with really satisfying results too.

Blackronin, I had a bit of uh...SUBTEXT in my last post to keep things off the public system a bit, but I'd be happy to see if its something I can do.
Golem, oooh...pictures?

Not yet, I'm just fiddling with PS and building up pdf pages to print in the near future. I applied a couple of filters to get a slight "cell-shaded" effect, which darkens the figures a bit but is more eye-candy for my tastes. If you're interested in seeing the results so far, drop me an e-mail at golem101-at-gmail-dot-com

Sorry Kane. I overstepped my lines. Corrected and stand corrected. My nephews like the bad ones with pointing knifes in the body.

So decided to play around with using the back views and...no. Could not get it to match up as the perspective of the camera lense throws things off. Oh well. Starting working on some Reds as I have a friend that likes them and trying to get him more interested. Thinking about trying the Skorne and this would be a good way to sample them before committing.

You'd really have to setup a dedicated rig for doing matching turn around's on painted figures. I had thought of trying that some time ago, but the effort was too high. Plus you can't exactly sell or distribute photos of the models like that.
I think what your doing is great. A tutorial on how you do it would be worth while, and give other people the knowledge to help themselves. There are a lot of photographed figures out there that can be adapted this way. JIM

Great idea, Jim. I will do that with say...a celebrity photo or something so as not to give the fine folks at Privateer ulcers...and to keep me legal.

Risky.... you may end having a lot of "back sides" requests

Risky.... you may end having a lot of "back sides" requests LOL I'll have to be careful then! Figured Jack Sparrow was a safe model. Working on the guide. Here is the mini. Attachments:

Note that the behind the feet bit had to be added because of the uneven stance. Normally I would skew that off, but this one was too extreme.

Damn!! I arrived too late. I was going to ask for Olivia from Fringe... It would make such a nice addition to my Cthullu games... Now seriously. Is it possible to transform the photo of Jack in a more "draw" image using filters?

Finished doing the easier figures of the Legion of Everblight (warlocks, warbeasts and solos), I just started working on the units - completed only the blight archers so far.
Maybe tomorrow I'll be posting a photo or two of some of the completed models.
