Getting ahead of myself here, but... Well, this is the another project I'm working on, and I hope it warrants opening a new thread already, despite the lack of pictures (which I hope to deal with in the evening).
The idea is as follows:
This is the story of Petrosius Hollertree. Well, not quite, but it comes from his work, his diaries and tomes that have recently been unearthed in a rather secluded and hitherto unknown location by the elusive Pashmivar people, who have opted to share his findings openly lest they would be used for personal gain by mortals or, the gods beware, worse.
Even before the discover, Petrosius was a well known demonoligist and seeker of hidden truths in the cosmos. No, he wasn’t, but he will soon be considered as such after all his works have been read by more people. In fact, he was a small-time locksmith in a remote village somewhere in the world, and the lack of further facts about his early life proves how small time he really was.
But one day, he decided that he would no longer put up with people who kept bugging him about his name, and so he packed his belongings and left his hometown.
Sadly, it is not really known what happened to him since, although most historians are sure that his story would fetch quite a price with the gnome editors of the Handy History publication, if only someone with at little sense of drama could write it.
But there is light about to be shed here, for Petrosius Hollertree did indeed get involved with demons, to the extend that he was taken to the Abyss at several occasions, usually to be tortured and dismembered.
Obviously, his skills at picking locks helped him along here, and whenever he had the chance, that is to say, long hours to kill in smelly, cramped hideouts, he wrote down his findings about the realms he had seen, the buildings he had been so kindly forced to visit, and the hideous things and devices he had seen inside.
But as a locksmith, he obviously had a keen eye for locks and mechanisms in general, and those of the arcane and demonic persuasion in particular. He took down minute details of things no mortal had ever laid their eyes on, at least not without having them plucked out and boiled during the duration of their stay.
Petrosious escaped the Abyss numerous times, but his experiences stuck, and henceforth he actively sought out new challenges throughout the cosmos, becoming the first mortal to witness a great many things that were, as the proverb goes, to die for. He survived, though, and will in the future be famous for being the first portal on record to brave the most hideous of environments this cosmos has to offer, including some outside of it. As such, he is the first one who visited the ravished world of Pori’Zul and brought written accounts of the severe changes the visit of the Found One imparted on this realm.
There are many more things that we today can learn from Petrosius Hollertree, not the least being how to keep a neat hand under duress. With time, we will also come to understand all those marvelous things he has seen, and our understanding for the cosmos will be better for it.
First up: the Demon Plug - a story of beauty and hunger, as researched by Petrosius not in the Abyss, but much closer to home.
