Maybe I'm being daft, but is there a name for us paper miniature fanatics? Wargaming has "Grognards". Shouldn't there be a term to define paper mini designers, builders, and fans? Are we "Papercutters"? "Papercrafters"? "Cardboard-Warriors"? A friend of mine said we're "Cheapskates", but he's too much into metal miniatures; so I called him a thingy.

People who don't want to paint models This is'nt always true It's absolutely true for me - but then, I'm extremely lazy. I'm even getting to the point of just using counters rather than full figures (not quite there yet, but getting there). On the topic of a 'name' for what we do: SKINNIES - 'cos the figures are so skinny INSTANT ARMY BOYS - 'cos it's generally quicker to put together an army with 'em. "What, we need another 20 figs for this week's game? No problem - I'll have 'em done by tomorrow night!" INDEPENDENTS - 'cos let's face it - that's what we are. We don't get tied into a single gig. But my personal favourite has to be WaffleM's CARDBOARD WARRIORS. ...or maybe tweak it a little bit into CARDBOARD GENERALS - I think that nicely encapsulates it. DaveA P.S. CARDBOARD CAPTAINS has a nice alliterative feel....

I remember a while back there were rumours/jokes about rebranding Dungeons and Dragons (then called AD&D) the same way frisbee did. Ultimate frisbee was making it big, but people were calling it "ultimate". "Yeah, I played a few hours of Ultimate on the weekend. It was radical." So AD&D was going to be known as Awesome Dungeons and Dragons and people would just refer to it as "Awesome". "Yeah, I played a few hours of Awesome on the weekend. It was radical." We should all be Awesome.

We definitely have to get "celluloosers" off the internet immediately, 'cause something like that is going to catch on. Nothing else seems to me to have "sticking power," other than "cardboard captains" but I'm not likely to refer to myself that way. I'd likely say "paper figure gamer" to someone who doesn't already know what I'm talking about.

I usually use the term 'paper minis' and 'paper modeler' when I talk about the hobby. I do like the sound of 'cardboard captain'. It will give those who insist on traditional metal a smug superiority since a general is higher than a captain.

I'd likely say "paper figure gamer" to someone who doesn't already know what I'm talking about. You could shorten "paper figure gamer" to just "paper gamer". That works for me. I do kind of like cardboard warrior, or cardboard captain, although it may be a bit misleading. When outsiders hear cardboard they're thinking cardboard boxes or something.

But my personal favourite has to be WaffleM's CARDBOARD WARRIORS. I can't take credit for that. That's from BigJim's renaming of the Onemonk Forums. How about "Zactos" from our use of X-acto knives? Okay, that's lame...

Hmmm.... I usually just end up using a term like "paper modeller," but I've never really thought about it. I like Cardboard General or Cardboard Captain, but if you're worried about people being confused you could say cardSTOCK instead of cardboard. - Pb

To parry Parduz, since the paper minis are so light weight, I propose celluliters! (and we lose every female gamer in the market)

Cardboard Warriors works for me.
It would also refer to this board, which would be good for the hobby in general.
Cardstock Generals would probably be a bit more accurate, but I think it would be confusing to those out of the loop.

We are "GAMERS" pure and simple!
I don't care if you use lead (very old-school), pewter, plastic, resin, or an X-Box 360. A game is a game and I have used my share of all of the above.
I have spent thousands of dollars over the years, and I don't care if it is a $50.00 LAWHAMMER tank, or an $8.00 Bel's Kitty, a miniature/model is a miniature/model.
I have kit-bashed models for YEARS. I have never been able to do anthing with plastic, resin or pewter and get the results I have with paper.
Who are we? We are us!

I have to agree with Kiladecus. Why do we have to have a label? Artists, Gamers... Writers. Inventors in some ways. Bringing our imaginations and mind's eye to life.

I was about to post something silly suggesting "paper dolls" or "print heads" as in the end, I was feeling annoyed by this need of a label.

My goal in starting this thread was not to "label" any of us with a particular ideology/term. I was just looking for a descriptive term so that I don't have to say I'm a: "Table top wargamer/rpg fan who uses paper miniatures to represent his characters instead of the traditional metal or plastic miniatures and a person who appreciates the ability to electronically share his designs/miniatures with others". To this end I think that I like "Paper Model Gamer" the best. If I wanted some sort of ideologic label, I might suggest "Cardicrats", "Papericans", "Cellutarians", or "Cardstocialists". But I wouldn't do that, because it's just wrong...
