Many of you are probably familiar with Fiddlers Green www.fiddlersgreen.net/Chip is trying to drive up traffic and get higher on the list with Google so he is giving away free models. Go to the home page and click on the New England Village and the Connected Farm may still be available at the top of the pic on the page that opens. Through the 12th, he is giving away the Messerschmitt-Me262 from the home page, and through the 17th, the Messerschmitt Me-109. He will be offering more models for FREE in the coming weeks. Check often. All he asks is that you bookmark the home page and any pages where you download free models. That seems mighty fair to me. As always, when you set up an account, Chip gives you three free models of your choice. Just don't pick the ones available for free elsewhere. When I joined I got the Connected Farm and Thoreau's Cabin, which of course became free models later on ...

Cool! Fiddlers Green was the first paper model site I ever found, I built most of their buildings to use in 1/72nd scale WW2 games. Nice to have a free Messerschmitt as well.

Found this site years ago when my I decided to build a mobile of early flying machines for my wife. That was my first paper model project. Madness can start with such good intentions.

I wish that I had started my airplane models with some of their models. Somewhat short on detail, but go together very well. They are exceptional at smaller scales. If you do a web search for Fiddlers Green Free, you will find a lot of their models hosted at other websites. They are probably one of the most-pirated group of models, too, unfortunately. I've built many of their models, but have more on my computer that I have downloaded from their secret 'Free Models' section and from hosting sites. I certainly hope that this works well for Chip, but I am afraid it is mostly going to result in him giving away free models without increasing sales that much.

They are generally available in a scale that is close to O scale and also in HO (1/87).
Chip says this promotion has been extremely success. More traffic than the site has ever had. The models that are being given away are the ones that are the most-pirated ... at least what he has discovered to be the most-pirated. Why should his models drive other sites, but not his own, so he came up with this.
That speed boat was sure an odd thing.

I'll try printing some of them in an A3 sheet. That should put then in scale with 30mm minis (roughly 1:50, isn't it?)

I think 1:50 to 1:60 is where folks usually try to put things. If your scenery is truly 1:50 it takes up a lot of room. If you make it a touch small, things generally will look good from arms length and you can put more on your table

Silly me, just now I saw that the FG models have an "Large" version as well.
The scale seems perfect for arms-length distances.

Unfortunately, the large scale is sort of a sliding scale. I believe the larger scale is a scale that allows for little extra space on the pages. I still have a $20 credit over there and I was thinking about gettig the fishing shack since I think it is an excellent 'base' building that could be converted into a wide range of buildings, but now I'll wait.
