odd ... it isn't letting me log in Vermin King, I registered as a new member yesterday TWICE, because WWG is differentiating between SHOP account members and FORUM members (two different passwords!) ... so, I made the mistake trying to log-in into the SHOP (where you get the FREEBIES downloads exactly under this category link on the right side of your account profile ... just click on them and the download will start ... .) with my FORUM password. It's really confusing. You have to register for the SHOP with a new and different registration form (billing/shipping address and such) - maybe this was your mistake as it was mine ... . The offer of WWG is being made until March, 7th, I think. Try again, it works! oldschooldm - thanks alot for this link! Now I own my first full WWG tileset. I know that they are marvellous on the gfx side, but a bit complicated on the crafting side - and sometimes expensive. That said, I must say, that some design decisions are a bit odd to me, as even the Chief Designer, Denny Unger in person, likes central/focus point perspective on a tile in comparison to strict top-view without perspective 'games', which produce strange views, if you layout the tiles next to each other ... if you know what I mean. Also, there are sometimes questionable combinations of textures (raw, crude wood inside dock planks?), which make the tiles looking somewhat sterile, unnatural and 'clean'. Beat me, if I am slaughtering a holy cow here - or being unfair.

When Chris Roe started moving more of his models over to WWG, I registered at both the store and forum, so I'm not sure what's going on. I'll register again

Ok, @okum, don't want to insist on any harsh comments about the quality of WWG. I am a paper modeling beginner, so the Terrain_Linx-instructions left me scratching my head. Folding and unfolding seems to be too complicated to me ... . I am thinking about combinations of paper textures and Styrodur to build modular parts. No doubt, that WWG works out for alot of people as the best stuff on the market. But the texture quality may vary depending on designers and 'datedness' of the techniques involved. Textures are a matter of taste. EDIT: does anyone get a strange 'no-carriage-return' longest line-behaviour of the post text like me, or is my Browser nuts!? EDIT 2: Hell, I forgot: @okum, you are fighting massive modern/SciFi battles, do you?

paladin I am a fan of the textures. The real selling point is being able to tear it all down flat. It's a space issue. It also is the flexibility. Honestly, there is a thriving community and tons of material on the forum at WWG to get you started. Even the prop sets are worth it. I'm a fan of the older, more complicated sets, but the current Terrainlinx stuff is still of high quality. There is an archive of classic sets that are more traditional paper craft if Terrainlinx isn't your thing and they have the whole fold flat Swift Scenics may be more your thing. There is much more than the Terrainlinx stuff, I just happen to prefer the Terrainlinx. Another really cool thing about terrainlinx is that if you blow out a wall you can just pull it off on the fly and place ruin markers/terrain. It is wonderful in Champions when characters get blown through walls. I'm not sure what your question is about modern/sci fi battles.

You know, i was always a biy wary about WWG stuffs (i just own that Space game 'cause it was part of RPGNOW fund rising) 'cause the "enhanced" images of the sets. Now that i have that free set, and now that i see Okum tables, i admit that i'd buy some of them if i knew what game playing on it (remember? i don't play RPGs with minis ). Okum, pls, edit your post and put a carriage return between the images, as the forum engine is not able to keep the size right, and now we have a thread 20Kpx large

Carriage return initiated... I hope that helps.
The beauty, of course, is that you don't have to print off anything you don't want and because you get so much with each set you can still fill a table very efficiently. If you know some basic photoshop or gimp you can even modify or kit bash sets (like I did for the space station set above). You can also mix and match sets very effectively and there is a wide range of sets to choose from.

;D I LOVE carriage-return! @okum, I wasn't fully aware of the diverse Full Flat Systems WWG is offering. This is indeed a big selling point. The WWG stuff gets stability and modularity by more or less complicated folding techniques. If you tolerate some more storing space and invest some more money, you could get the same modularity with less effort by combining different materials: high quality laser print paper from the Copyshop for the textures, Styrodur/Styrofoam for props and columns, stairs, ramps, etc., non-bending high quality cardboard for books (2-3 mm thick), which is quite cheap here. Because of the material thickness of Styrodur-plates (2+ cm) and cardboard you get lots of easy possibilities for connecting them (pins, slots, puzzle system etc.). I like the possibility to blend from paper textures to Styrodur modeling&painting seamlessly, like cave ramps with irregular 'walls' etc. My comment about your 'massive battles' ('massive' as in 'massive crowd') was not really a (poorly written) question. I count nearly 14 miniatures in the 'Special Squad'-pic, and I guess, there are some more hidden in the complex - awaiting the State Police assault . That's, what I call a 'massive battle'. Parduz, I would like to know, what do you mean by 'enhanced images'?

Parduz, I would like to know, what do you mean by 'enhanced images'? I mean that the images of their products are so much colorful, full of contrast, and "so perfect" that, when you look at your print piece, it seems dull and bland. Okum images just give me the realism of a commonly lit room, and show the imperfections of a "commonly" built set. I can undertand how they look, and how much is hard to build them from that images, a thing that i can't do looking at WWG site.

Ah, ok, Parduz, you mean, that the 'official' WWG product pics are 'digitally enhanced' (aka 'photoshopped', I exaggerate, of course ...) . Good point. From Okum's pics I could tell, that there is no color saturation problem. The pieces seem to be colorful enough. But I fear some kind of 'dullness' as in digitally produced repetition of patterns and overall textures. I dig 'clean' tiles and walls of the Enterprise and an Imperial Star Destroyer, I dig less 'clean' tiles in the Falcon Machinery/Drive Section, and I do not dig 'clean' tiles in a crumbling stone temple of the Ancient Lizardfolk ... . Those bend wall sections in Okum's pics would also make me wonder, if all the hassle is worth the effort, at least there could be some kind of reinforcement. I would fear, that the paper will suffer from the folding and unfolding.

That and the FDG product was just closer to what I wanted (dungeon walls). Our group was also pretty frustrated trying to incorporate TerraClips buildings into our wargaming. We didn't like them for several reasons but my biggest peeve is that they did not put clip notches onto the tops of walls so you can't neatly clip small second floors in place to keep figures on balconies from flipping them over. All in all they just didn't work for us.

Hmmm. I'm not sure I agree with all that, but to each thee own. I definitely haven't had any issues structurally or aesthetically with either the Terrainlinx or terraclips. I have even clipped the top of terraclips with no problem. Anyway. WWG makes exactly what I am looking for in card stock terrain as I just haven't been inspired looking at the FDG material to want to purchase it or build it. One thing that is suggested I you don't want to go the modular route is to use the sets for quick builds that are permanent. I've done that especially for ground tiles, gluing 4-6 together in a square or 3 as a strip. I also do a lot of kitbashing so my sets are customized to my needs. Seriously though, the props sets are awesome if you haven't looked into them yet.

Ah, well, @okum, I am nitpicking from a noob and undecided point of view, so don't get the impression, that I am disappointed by WWG. I am sceptical, though, and I want to try the mentioned material-combo route with more easy and durable ways of connecting pieces. Maybe I can post some pics of the 'results' in the future ... .

Seriously though, the props sets are awesome if you haven't looked into them yet. You can clip stuff to the tops of walls but it doesn't come together nicely cause there aren't notches. To me this damages the aesthetic. Next to Dave's buildings I think the Terraclips stuff looks pretty lousy with it's clips sticking out all over the place. The rest of my group seems to agree. The FDG stuff has simpler textures but the bobby pins are much less noticeable. For dungeons and free standing walls in general, I think they work better into the aesthetic of our terrain collection. For buildings I think I will mostly stick with Dave's stuff though I am also gonna try some of the FDG fold flat buildings. If they work well it will save me a lot of space. I am gonna take a look at the free package but I just down feel enthusiastic about it. The fact that terrainlinks pretty much requires ground tiles is a pretty big turn off. I know there are workarounds but they sound like a lot of trouble. Filling a 4'x4' table with the stiff just seems like it would be a lot of work. I can see where WWG has its place but is just not what we need.

I don't build thick tiles - I use a plastic sheet over maps and thin-tiles instead (as I've pointed out elsewhere.) This means I had to come up with an alternative for WWG's mounting system. Free standing posts, documented here: www.worldworksgames.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=65&t=10523Very cool! I'll have to use this if (when) I can get back to building my dream TerrainLinx build. My biggest issue has already been mentioned: I've often found that the new TerrainLinX stuff doesn't look as cool when I build it as are in the official promo pics. Their pictures are really cool as far as dioramas go though.
