From the Fiddler's Green newsletter; Hi Model'n Pals,
Right near the top of the home page this week is a free download link for the colorful Holiday Edition for the 4th of July P-51 sent in by Gary Dare. You don't need Magic Keys to download this. In fact, you don't even need to log in.
Big thanks to Bob Martin and Ward for helping to answer questions and assisting with everything in the chat room. Little Ward (8yrs old now) had his birthday this week and selected the HUP-2 Vertol Retriever Helicopter-US Navy version for all those with Magic Keys. Nice choice, Ward!
Not to be outdone by this, a brilliant lad in New Zealand, Hunter B, tried his hand in model design and came up with two new versions of the Starduster. He calls them "Bright and Beautiful" and "YELL-O" and you really need to download them. He said it is a gift from him to all the Model'n Pals for helping out with store credit when he was low on cash. They will be in your Treasure Chest for the week on your MyModels Page. A lot of people really loved that method of downloading, so we'll try it again this week. It also gives you a chance to buy 3 months of Magic Keys and get the week you missed by buying the chest with your store credit.
The Predator was supposed to be ready for this weekend but we had to move it to the following Saturday. Bob Martin and Aaron are working on a way to make it easier to build. The nose part requires a little trick and some serious skill to make it come out right, but we want to make it something that will be easier for everyone.
Vlad is back on his feet. He sent in a green camo version of the DFS-228 and started back to work on the Mitchel B-25 which a lot of people have been asking about. I don't have a time frame on it, but it is moving forward. He's a great artist and he really loves illustrating and designing models, but things have been hard for him. It's getting better though.
Speaking of great artists, Richard has finished the "Knight in Shining Armor" model and I'm sure you're gonna love it. I do. We'll release his Dragon next week (July 5th) to make some room in the pipeline, but in the meantime I'm lowering the price on it to $12 and I'll extend the offer to pay him an extra $5 per sale on that until it's released to the Magic Keys folders. A lot of people got that with store credit, but only one, as far as I can tell, actually bought it. Thanks Allen! If you paid for it with a regular payment and your name is not Allen, then please write to me so I can give Richard his bonus for that.
The Flying Dino's have flown again. If you are the first one to find all three again this week then you can have a month of Keys. I had one guy come into the chat room and ask where they were. I asked him if he had read the newsletter last week and he said, "Well, sort of.." but unfortunately this happened about an hour after I already moved them.
The Flying Dragon challenge... well, you will have to see the results of that on the Dragon Page. We put a couple short videos there to document Gary's success. It flew. It glided at least. The modifications that he made on it were pretty cool. He streamlined it and curled the wings up a bit to apply some of the principals of aeronautics. It looked nice with the neck stretched out like that, but I assure you there were no rockets involved.
For anyone looking for a project, the Mary Arden House could use a good write-up. If want to do a little research and write something for that page then I'm pretty sure there will be people there to read it. If you like history and you can whip up a web page without too much trouble, then I could probably use a hand every now and then. I get real busy around here and it's hard to know if I'll ever be able to take a break. We also have the Pharo's Lighthouse this week. If someone has a list of the lighthouses that have not been released to Magic Keys, then please send that to me and we'll try to get more of those out to you.
Aaron's Airfield Radio Beacon tower will be special fun, although I haven't decided where to put it yet. I want to release it into the public domain, which means that the copyright will be very free. That is free as in "free speech" not just free as in "free beer" so you will be able to alter or improve it, distribute it, share it, and even sell it if you want, just as long as you give credit to the originator of the work. I'm hoping to do other models like this in the future, but I want to make it clear that it is not open season for all FG models. The open source ones will carry a special logo for the "creative commons" and they will be available, along with new versions, somewhere in Fiddlersgreen. The Wallis Rigby Page is in serious need of revision, so it will probably start there. This is how we are going to celebrate "International Paper Model Day" this year (July 1st) which just happens to be my Father's birthday. Someone told me that it is also Wallis Rigby's birthday, but I haven't been able to confirm that yet. If you know, then please write and tell me.
Huge thanks to everyone, YMP Scott FynFiddler's Green

From the Fiddler's Green newsletter; Hi Model'n Pals, We have another "Free for All" download, the Canadian Chipmunk, at the top of our home page right next to the P-51 from last week. You don't need Magic Keys to download it. Just click on the box right below it. King Richard's Dragon is in your folders now if you have Magic Keys and the Predator was also released this week. You should also have the J2F Grumman Amphibious Duck the The Herring SEA GULL GLIDER the Stars and Stripes USA Hot Air Balloon the USA Screaming Eagle Balloon and thanks to the kindness of Darla from California who figured out which lighthouses were not released yet, you now have the Yaquina Bay Lighthouse Newport, Oregon to add to your collection. Congratulations to Christopher who found the Pteradactyl in the Fantasy Castle where it still is if you have that folder, but it will be moving again soon, so don't wait if you want to catch it. He also found the The Rhamphorynchus in the captain's house and won a month of Magic Keys. Most questions and customer service can now be addressed in the chat room where you can meet some of the designers and other assorted staff. They are volunteers, so be nice to them.
Vlad has sent us his new DFS 346, which is beautiful of course, so as soon as we're done with the beta on that it will be headed your way.
That's all for now, YMP Scott FynFiddlers Green

Thank you for the heads up on that last week, squirmy dad! I'd found Fiddler's Green a few months back, but it took seeing the dragon on the front page for me to dive in. For $15 bucks (signing up for a couple of months' magic keys), I not only got it (originally priced @ $17, then $12) for free, but some other fun stuff, and still $15 worth of store credit (gypsy wagon, here I come!). While I'm completely ignorant of planes, trains, and automobiles (ok, less so that last one), I've a brother-in-law who's an amateur pilot, another whose an avionics technician, and my dad's a fan of all things mechanical. Not to mention the gnomelets who will be thrilled at building more elaborate papercraft as the years go on. And there is plenty of interesting paper architecture as well, some easily adaptable to RPG scenery, historical, fantasy, contemporary, and beyond. Again, I'm so glad for the reminder, and that I finally bit the bullet!

News from Fiddlers Green; www.fiddlersgreen.net/Greetings Modeling Pals:
It’s been a while since the last news letter and there has been a lot going on behind the scenes that lately have resulted in a mad scramble to keep up. As we go forward, we’ll strive to maintain that same level communication and service that you have come to expect and deserve.
With that said, as most of you probably know or have heard, we had some technical difficulties this past weekend. Fortunately, we got through it and everyone is able to log in and access their accounts, but it also put us behind for the model-a-day program. Some new models have been distributed to include Aaron’s Convair YB-60, and Vladimir’s DFS-346. For those of you that have let their Magic Keys expire, and missed out on the YB-60, if you renew your keys by next Saturday, just let us know so that you can claim your copy of this beautiful model.
The problems of last weekend also brought to light that it is time to make some changes. We’ve added a couple of developers to the staff to rebuild the site from the ground up, and I have a couple of folks that will help to make sure that this one stays operational until we are ready to unveil the new one, which we will be adding some features that will not only improve the site, but make it more interactive as well.
I’m also happy to announce, as witnessed by the models that we have released so far this week, Aaron and Vladimir have once again returned to Fiddlers Green, and will be expanding our model inventory. Aaron has a bunch of models lined up that will be released over the next several months; such as the BV-141 and Yokosuka Ohka. Additionally we’re excited that Vladimir will not only be bringing us more new models, but will be picking up a few projects that seem to have gone adrift. Both designers are happy to be back, and are eager to bring you more models.
We also have a few new designers that have expressed an interest in joining the Fiddlers Green family, and we will be looking at their models as they become available and may be adding even more models to our rapidly growing collection.
Speaking of the Fiddlers Green family, there have been a few other new additions.
For those that home school their children, or know of anyone that home schools, Danoman is heading up an effort to involve Fiddlers Green with that program. As you may or may not know, card modeling is a great way to develop and expand on subjects that children learn in school; such as the development of problem solving skills (logic), math, engineering, history, artistry, as well as it enables them create/complete projects for school which also boosts their confidence and gives them a sense of accomplishment. So anyone interested in this program, you can find Danoman from time to time in the Chat Room or on Face Book (Danny Brammer).
OpalMox has been helping me in the chat room and is apprenticing as a site administrator. Additionally he’ll be assisting in the preparation of web pages for new models that will be coming out, as well as updating some of the old ones. He will also be helping me out on some other projects, such as the Lone Ranger Buildings. You can frequently find him in our chat room as well.
I am pleased to say that the chat room has worked out as well as I had envisioned. It has been a gathering point for modelers, developers, designers, staff, and people curious about paper modeling. It has proved to be a wonderful communication piece. While it certainly will not replace the Forums, and it was never intended as such, it has been one of the fastest ways to express ideas and concerns as they arise. So swing by and see what’s going on.
Well, that’s the latest, and as you can see, we have a lot planned. So keep your blades sharp, and your keys active.
YMP Scott and Ward

Honestly, I think Scott is very fortunate to get Aaron Murphy (Oddball Productions) back in the FG fold. I've noticed several of Aaron's free models at ECardmodels have been pulled, and though he hasn't said so, I imagine that they will eventually be at FG, also.

Fiddlers Green News; Fiddlers GreenHi Model’n Pals, This week on Monday I added The Wright Flyer as an extra release for Orville Wright’s Birthday, celebrated as National Aviation Day in the USA. However, a lot of folks would agree with me that aviation has many notable founders. Among them, of course, is Sir George Cayley who was represented last weekend with Cayley’s 1804 Glider. You will find these and some other remarkable historical artifacts among the following links for the models that were released last Saturday (August 17th) Cessna-BirdDog Chanute-Glider Charles Hydrogen Balloon Norge Polar Explorer Airship Portland Head, ME Prison Cayley’s 1804 Glider The Wright Flyer
As for what will be released for this Saturday, I’m not completely sure yet, but I’m going to release the Wright Flyer again for those who just signed up. That model file now has a little work shed that was used by the Wright Brothers. For those who do not have Magic Keys, we are offering the work shed (regular version) for a limited time free download here. Ward is working on a line-up for an explorer’s theme which might include: The all new Byrd Trimotor, Blanchard Jefferies Balloon, Demoiselle, Dumont 14 Bis, Whitehead Flyer, Wright Glider, Zogling Primary Glider.
Other models we are considering are the Degen Ornithopter, Davinci Airscrew, and Gloster E28. If you want to see the materials we are gathering for the Byrd Trimotor page, then go to The Byrd Page and click on “replies” at the bottom to see what has been contributed – or contribute something yourself. Perhaps you have a story or a picture you want to share. So keep your blades sharp, and your keys active.

And don't forget that the Jeep is a free download for a limited time. Before Chip passed away, Scott set up another page, www.papermodelairplanes.net/. It still rotates through 12 model planes, one free model a day. JPG, not PDF, but free, and an interesting assortment. Another associated site is www.papermodelplanes.com/. Aaron's A10 Warthog was up for about two weeks before it was officially added to the FG site. Occasionally a new model is added there. www.cardmodelers.net/ is the FG Tutorial page, with various free models, too. Happy exploring

Fiddlers GreenHi Model'n Pals, I've already started on next week's newsletter which outlines the trainers that we are getting ready to release on Sept. 14th along with some other links that are already available. This week however, the theme is animals at Fiddlergreen, so we have lots of aircraft named after interesting critters, plus the barn for the building builders. We have F-16 Fighting Falcon Bell-Huey Cobra Gossamer-Albatross BAe Hawk Curtiss P6E Hawk Long House & Barn Red Tailed Hawk (in the next few days) The Bobbin' Head Cow In preparation for releasing the Bodie Hotel next week, a couple home-schoolers have teamed up to provide the historical information on our page for that model. It impressed me how well they worked together, and how they learned what was required to get the job done. The youngest one learned the html code required to submit a web page, and the older one did the research and wrote the story. Since it ultimately falls to me to be responsible for the editing, I took the liberty of leaving the word "tuckus" in there, which is a word I don't believe appears anywhere else on our pages. From a writing standpoint, I think this contributes to what is called "voice" in the profession, and it is important that it doesn't get cut, but you'll have to read it before you can formulate an opinion. Richard's Hawk just arrived, which fits in perfectly with our theme of "animals" this week. I told him it is utterly stunning, and I'm sure you'll agree. He also sent another piece of artwork to go along with it, which is an image of a Red Tailed Hawk he painted, suitable for framing in the best frame you can find. These items might be added a little bit later in the week, or perhaps even the following Saturday, but this should give all those who want it a good chance to renew their keys. We discussed this, based on all the people writing about how they wished they had renewed if only they had known we were going to have such great models. You can renew your Magic Keys subscription in your MyModels folder and if you have any customer service issues or anything you want to discuss, please use the chat room for this. It's a great way to get faster, more personal service out of your Model'n Pals. YMP Scott

Fiddlersgreen.net <info@fiddlersgreen.net> 04:46 (9 hours ago)
to me Hi again Model'n Pals,
I'm not sure if you noticed, but we slipped in a couple new models into the Zero folder (on a temporary basis) and didn't say anything about it. They are Japanese pillboxes that Ward whipped up, and he's talking about doing some more accessories and goodies for the wargamers and other folks who like to build dioramas with their models. He's designing some more fortifications and bunkers and he wanted you to have those. If you don't have Magic Keys, you can get these models (for now) at the new war-gaming website. I pu t the MASH tent and the jeep there too in case you missed it before. If you do have Magic Keys, then they are still in your Mitsubishi Zero folder, but the new link might be faster for you.
It seems that students are very keen on building historical scenes for their history classes, and we want to continue to have an educational focus as much as possible going forward. People are having fun learning about the models as they build them, and they write all the time to thank us for that. Home schoolers are also writing in more and more, thanks to Danoman and others for their efforts. They love the lighthouses, and there's an ongoing project to get the proper scales worked out for the New England Village. If you have leadership skills and you like herding cats, then YOU could be the leader of that team, but be advised that a new layout will have to be made to fit the new scales so there might end up being a lot of work there.
I'm also trying to line up more volunteers to provide the historical comments that go directly on the models, as well as the historical information for the web pages. If this is something that interests you, then please come to the chat room and pick a project. The link for that is at the top of our home page at Fiddler's Green.
Tim Allen has sent us another treat. He says, "I thought I would pass onto you my repaint of the Fiddlers Green He 162. I really liked the model but found the greens to be too vibrant. So I made up my own version and added in some details like grunge and rivets. I know technically the wings were wood; I just like the look of the rivets." so I asked him to help me draft a form letter to send to all those who are going to write in about the rivets. His response was to send us an extra page with the wings...minus the rivets for purists. This will be one of your models for Saturday. You get the whole folder so that includes the new one plus the old one in case you don't already have it.
We had a request for the Bodie Hotel and the Tiger Moth from some very special Model'n Pals, and since it's been about a year since we did those, I thought some of the new modelers would like them. To go along with the PT-17, we have the Ryan ST-A (PT-16) and the PT-22, and a few others.
Heinkel-Salamander He 162 Bodie Hotel Tiger Moth (PT-17) Ryan PT-16 Ryan PT-22 Red Tailed Hawk (released on the 12th) World Trade Center (re-released on the 11th)
We've been working all week to try to get the new T-38 Talon to you, but sheet 5 is a duplicate of sheet 6 in one version and is entitled sheet 8 in another, and I'm not about to release it like that, so it will have to wait until next week. Bob is head of Quality Control now and I was thinking about sending it to him with the page numbers all messed up like that - just to see how he would deal with it - but in the end I decided to have mercy on him. It's beautiful though. I can tell you that for sure, but if you want to go see for yourself you can get a preview at the new page for it.
By the way, it's Bob's birthday on Saturday, so we'll have his favorite plane, the FG Demoiselle, available for download on Saturday only, but you already have it if your keys were up to date on August 24th.
We might have enough trainers to do another Trainer Week for the 21st, so if you like the Harvard and the P-26, and you want to get the new T-38 Talons, then make sure your Keys are up to date. We're doing another lighthouse too, so stay tuned.
Until next time, Your Model'n Pal, (YMP) Scott

Scott put up a temporary Wargaming Page, www.wargaming-models.com/Not sure of the scale, but the one pillbox looks pretty good. Per the webpage, it's supposed to be 1:60, just perfectly within our range of 25-30mm figures. Hmmm. I just looked at the page again, and it doesn't say that. I wonder where I read that part...

Thanks for helping with updates. I hope their Wargaming Models page is a successful endeavor. I originally started in paper-modelling by downloading English countryside buildings for use in 1/72 scale WW2 battles. Your welcome! It was someone's reminder, likely yours, that prompted me to get a couple of months worth of magic keys, which I'd not really understood previously. I loved and coveted the Dragon, so it was the perfect time to join. I was very happy to get three great buildings (from an long list of various models of aircraft, buildings, etc.) for free right off the bat, and lots of other models for free every week. I'll make up a couple of aircraft up for the boys (perhaps even WITH my older son), and one or two more for a brother-in-law whose family has a plane they fly out of their barn. The other model I really wanted was the gypsy wagon, but unfortunately, as I discovered within a few minutes of scoring and cutting, it's broken. I think who ever "updated" it made a mistake in editing, and the door end is clipped where it should be extended (where it joins the wagon's underside). I'm so happy to have found Dryw's gypsy wagons to build instead! They were a breeze and just as bright and beautiful I really hope that the wargaming models does well, too, so that we might see more in 1:60/1:64/25-30mm/S-scale, beyond "war" accessories. I plan on using some of the nice red barns, and other things, but as the largest scale they are offered in is just HO/1:87, they'll probably be more background than focus. Yes, I know I can print them at 125%, but some of the artwork is already suffering from scan and scale-up artifacts, and I've not the skills to efficiently re-layout the pages in the larger scale required. Not the skills YET, nor quite the time to spare... You know, if a Cardboard Warrior or two had a few figures to offer that would tie-in with their models for sale, I'm sure Fiddler's Green be happy to build up the hobby, and it'd make a great introduction to paper minis for a whole new audience. And then of course, we'd crash poor Squirmydad's ad busting efforts in the first few days of every month, instead of towards the end ;D

I think I got the gypsy wagon from there when Chip was giving models away before he died. I had previously had the one from the free greeting cards, but it was skewed. If you want another copy, pm me with your email address. I've built it and a recolor without any problems. Well, I think I angled the 'door wall' back slightly. Since you obviously got it legitimately, I'd be willing to send you a new copy.

Latest news from Fiddlers Green; Hi Model'n Pals, It's September 21st in Arizona. We're expecting temperatures to finally drop below 100 degrees, but before it cools off we have some hot news about another dinosaur from Richard. No one was expecting it, and you're the first to know. Meet Spinosaurus, the biggest baddest yet. This bad boy measures in at 25 inches, but of course you can shrink it to any size you want. And we have a lighthouse that I'm sure you don't have (unless you bought the whole collection of them). I'm talking about the West Point Lighthouse, Seattle, Washington which you can add to your own personal collection now. Of course we also have the Boeing P-26 Peashooter and the AT-6 Harvard, but the hottest news on the T-38 Talon is that there is now two of them. There's a NASA version and a Thunderbird version. We'll have one for you this week and the other one next week, and they'll be in the same folder, so you'll get them both even if you haven't renewed your keys yet. Thomas Lundy was sending me a repaint of the old Me-109 at the exact same minute that I was talking about him, so I thought there was something supernatural about that. He said "How Odd!" and I told him it would be odd if it didn't happen all the time. If you thought there was something spooky going on around here, then you might be right. Don't ask me, I'm just a spectator of spectacles. I put it in the me-109 folder for now and I'll move it to the collections folder after a week, so if you want that one you should get it now. Ben Cox (BC, the Caveman) has been working on some more Me-109's in honor of the great aces, but the primitive nature of American telecommunications has knocked him back a few ages and is holding us back a bit there. We might get those to you by Pony Express some day. He's also working on the Pudgy II in honor of Tommy McGuire Jr. You should have the NASA version of the T-38 by now. The new page for it is here link. I'm not sure yet what's in store for next week besides the other T-38, but you can go to the mailbag (newsletter link near the top of our home page) to see the newsletter before it is mailed. Keep in mind that it changes throughout the week, so it might be very different by the time it arrives in your inbox. This one is going out a little late so you might not be reading it until Monday or Tuesday. See ya next time, YMP ScottFiddlers Green

From the Fiddlers Green newsletter; Fiddlers GreenNovember 2nd Newsletter
Hi again Model'n Pals,
I would like to thank all those who covered for me while I was gone by answering questions in the chat room. It has proven to be a great way to coordinate our efforts. The link for that is at the top of our home page at Fiddler's Green.
Your menu for Saturday November 2nd is the following...
Antique Shop Town Bank Boeing Mail Plane Covered Wagon DaVinci Air Screw Robert Burns Cottage Spinosaurus
Last week (Oct 26th) you got:
Assay-Land Office Avro-Baby BAe Harrier Hughes H-1 Lockheed Sirius Merchants House Montauk-Point, NY
We're hoping to have the A-12 Shrike ready for next weekend. This ain't a promise, but it's a definite maybe. The tutorial was prepared by Pericles, and it has been included in The FG Academy at our Cardmodelers test site. That particular tutorial contains around 80 clear pictures, plus step by step instructions for building it. I'll post the link again as soon as the model and info page for it are ready.
Until next time, Your Model'n Pal, (YMP) Scott

There are times, when I wish I didn't have as much historical knowledge of some of the FG models. Don't get me wrong, but some of the models just aren't up to a very good standard. This week's offerings include their Harvard House, which looks nothing like it. Just a reminder, you can get my much better model at cardboard-warriors.proboards.com/post/72740/thread. Having made that statement, this was one of my first models, so I really need to bring it up to a higher standard, along with the Garrick Inn. It's just that my initial foray into model design is so much closer to the real building ... If they just called it a jettied building, I would feel much better about the model. I really ought to offer Scott some of my own time to bring some of their models up to a better standard, like the Banbury Cross which is practically unbuildable, the General Vallejo homestead which is a mirror of the actual home, etc. Don't get me wrong. For the most part, I really like the FG models, but there are some that should be pulled. If I get my Harvard House and Garrick Inn brought up to a higher standard, I will still offer them here, but I will probably offer Scott the new versions along with the suggestion for renaming the current Harvard House I think that our hobby wouldn't be where it is currently if it wasn't for Chip Fynn and FiddlersGreen. And I am very thankful that his son Scott has kept it going and expanding. I would really like to help Scott out
