Wonderful tribute to the best space opera to ever hit the screen *ducks* I LOVE Wash best of all, and am glad you took the time to get him right. Book, Zoe, Kaylee, Simon, Jayne, all especially strong in their facial characterizations. Mal looks a little grumpier than I'd like to remember him, but both Nathan Fillion and Adam Baldwin's subsequent characters may be colouring my experience. Time is a-comin' for a marathon to reinvigorate my memory of, and my passion for, Firefly. Sadly, I only discovered it via Serenity, having previously given up on TV altogether... I dream of a kickstarted... The only figure in the set that isn't spot on, for me at least, is River. The muscular body shape looks wrong: she was waifish, hence it was always a surprise when power exploded from her slim frame, and she changed from damsel-in-distress to warrior-saviour. Still, it is in keeping with the heroic style established here on one monk... It's a good figure, just not a good River (imho).

Yes, it's neat that they are coming out with this (2nd) RPG. Anyone had a look at it yet? I'm not even going to peek - to many games to be played on my list already... BTW It looks like DriveThruRPG added a discussion tab for products, like paizo.com has. That's great, as you can get good informal reviews and general information on the product from other peeps without a formal purchaser's review (esp. useful when you might have bought something elsewhere, like paizo.com)

The purchasers' reviews on RPGNow, are mixed. Someone compares this with the first edition ( Serenity ) and believes this is more simplistic, too much. I don't know. But I think there are two big differences to be taken into account. Serenity was using an original gameplay system while this, Firefly, use the Cortex system ( the good, imho, MW general game system ) and must adjust the setting for the Cortex rules ( more or less ). Second, it is more like a completely and totally playable preview but it is not a complete final product. "This is for the digital, full-color version of the Gen Con Exclusive PDF and will be available to fans worldwide. Gaming in the 'Verse will include preview material that will be expanded upon and published in the upcoming Firefly Role-Playing Game based on the popular Fox television series created by Joss Whedon."link"Over 260 pages of shiny, awesome fun! Character Creation includes all nine crewmembers, 12 pre-generatedarchetypes, and original character generation. Ship Creation includes step-by-step information on how to build your boat. Sample ships are offered throughout. Episode Guide preview for "Serenity" and "The Train Job" comes with recap, adventure seeds, and character stats. Basic Rules provide everything you need to run a scenario in the 'Verse Wedding Planners, written by Margaret Weis, is a five-act Echoes of War Adventure. Shooting Fish is written by Andrew Peregrine (also an Echoes of War Adventure). Appendix includes design essays, glossary, FAQ, Chinese Translation"linkCiao

Hmmmm. See, I always pictured River as the natural athlete. Simon mentions her as a dancer quite a few times in the series. And Summer Glau did have pretty muscular legs (both pretty and muscular....). And the fact that she often wore combat boots kinda emphasized that.
But I get where you're coming from too. Interesting...that two people can watch the same character and see something completely different. My biggest concern with making River was to get just a little of both the innocent and the "crazy killer woman" in her face...which I hope I achieved.
But on a more practical note, waifish is a little hard to achieve in small figures. If you make their limbs too skinny, they disappear when you print them. They have to have a certain cartoonish proportion to come off (in my opinion). I think that's why I like Dave Okum's figures so much....and DarkMook too. They really get that idea to work.
Thanks for the feedback,
GM64
Edit.....and don't duck.....Firefly/Serenity was the best space opera ever put on screen.....

Not sure I'd call it an opera, but it was well written and well acted. Hard to go wrong when you have those things working.

I've been playing the new Firefly RPG based on Cortex Plus. IMO it's a great ruleset. A departure from the Serenity RPG, and under a different license. The new game is a more narrative style game, in that the players have a lot of agency to affect the plot. Once the players understand this, it makes for great storytelling and fun play.

That's almost the exact set of Serenity Cargo Bay, stairs and all.
