My buddy sent the pics from last weekend. Woot! I designed and built the ships. They are crewed by mesper 's pirates, scaled down. First, the good guys are in the far ship. The pirates are coming down wind at them. Those are Guiness glasses, but we a drinking home brewed stout.

Next the captain of the player's ship (an NPC) quite improbably wins an opposed boating roll with his 5 (on d6) beating what either pirate captain rolled on their d10's. The Arlecchino avoids being surrounded! The Arlecchino (English "Harlequin") is so named because on printing I discovered I had inadvertently designed two starboard sides. When I assembled it anyway it was planked high on one side and low on the other. I coloured it with a dark blue sharpie to hide the instructions I had printed on the inside. I too, can do a lot with a sharpie

This is me moving some pirates around the St Nick as it comes alongside the Arlecchino. It was named for the red and green in it's paint job. I think I was inspired by dungeonmistress to paint the white models I'd printed while designing rather than recolour and print something I knew still needed adjustments. Both pirate ships were made this way. Moving around the figures in the tight quarters of the 15mm ships proved to be a pain. I am thinking of going back to 15mm for the next adventure. The players say a few pairs of tweezers for moving figs would solve the problem. I do like to be able to print off "large" vehicles etc on a page or two of paper and have no seams on the length of the ship.

A wider shot to give you context of the game. My cottage really isn't well insulated and despite the sun shining in the windows (and through the wool blanket blocking the gaps around the door) it is only a few degrees above freezing outside and all the melting snow along with the wind makes it unpleasant to be outside. The little woodstove tried its hardest but we never got above 60F (15C) the whole weekend, so some guys just kept their outdoor gear on. If you look closely you can see that some judicious sniping of the pirate helmsmen by the company marksman has caused one pirate ships to ram the other. BTW the poker chips are for tracking "bennies" and the playing cards are for Savage Worlds initiative. This is the last of the pictures. It got very exciting with some heroic swinging from the rigging, hair-breadth escapes and awesome feats of daring do. The good guys won, but it was a near thing. Next "episode" the players return to Venice.

I can't imagine playing at such a small scale, but it does, indeed, look like you had a good time. And exciting, too! I sympathize with with you regarding the cold conditions. Our forced air heater in our poorly insulated single wide trailer, died at the end of February, just in time for the Ides of March, which here came in the form of freezing winds, hail the size of marbles and and pelting rain! Fun times! But things are looking up. This morning it was actually above freezing at 7am for the first time since October! Oh, summer can't come soon enough or stay long enough to thaw out my old bones!

What set of rules are you playing with?

I can only tell the scale by the volume of liquid in the glass.... and since they are only a quarter full or so it's almost impossible ! so here's what I suggest fill them up and do it again! only use bigger mug this time ! LOL
Those ships look fantastic BTW and I haven't had a drop!

Those ships are amazing! I've been looking all over for ship models (and was worried that I might be stuck designing my own). Is there any chance you might post something on how you built yours? nudge nudge, wink wink

Thanks for all your responses. Vermin King: I think you are right dungeonmistress: It was your mention of hand colouring models that made me think I could do it to. spaceranger42: We play Savage Worlds Explorer's Edition with some pretty heavy house rule mods. aaron: Those glasses got re-filled a lot. Probably won't have a chance to try again until Nov. Though we are talking about a "bonus session" in September this year. eran: I do plan to post the ships but I know they need a little tweaking. Maybe I will post them as wip's and I can get some test builds and suggestions from the good folk here. Off to my weekly game now. Cheers all.
