I've just purchased the Ancient Temple bundle, - no doubt because I played the Tomb Raider series of games far too much when I was younger The maps look good with nice detailing and have plenty of potential for play by just about any ruleset I can think of. I had a look at the Top Down minis, but hesitated because I'm most probably too much of a traditionalist. Some years ago I did try playing DBA using top down paper minis, only the artwork wasn't very good and it was hard to tell what some unit types were without picking the pieces up and looking at what was written underneath.

Tomb Raiding eh? You should check out the Places of Horror Volume One (three maps). Includes a creepy lair, labyrinth, and finally a jungle sacrifice spot that goes well with the ancient temple maps.
I love our Top Down Armies personally. We use the black background and green background ones all the time as extras in Savage Worlds mounted on foam core so we flip them to the other side when they are Shaken with no image on the back.
The images themselves can blend into the background though (Lighting can be problematic since its natural light and an overhead fan bulb though where we game).
If you are worried about seeing the actual images through the grass backgrounds (and black backgrounds such as in Fantasy Creatures or the Western Keep), the Fantasy VTT token pack has them without backgrounds. Since it has 150 of the tokens from various TDA armies and new ones, its the best way to view the quality of Simon's token art. But the original Top Down Armies have better scale on the larger objects such as dwarf bear riders, goblin wolf riders, skeletons riding skeletal steeds, dwarf catapult, human knights, elf knights and mounted archers, orc bolt thrower, etc. than in Fantasy Creatures. But the ones in the VTT might be better for smaller game areas as a result of the size reduction.
You might want to go with Fantasy Creatures though. Its a mix of figure flats that has a couple pages of our top downs. The original goblin army with a black background is on one page and a full page dragon top down that I really like. So that you can check out Simon's top downs and figure flats that way and still get figure flats that you might be more accustomed to.
