It looks like they can also do print on demand. I am open to studying all options to get my Tank Shock game into production.
"we certainly can't offer to take small custom print requests, but if you have your own game company or wish to create large batches of durable and transparent game pieces for any purpose at all, contact us."

I would go for it, but its yet another fantasy RPG only thing. I only really do wargames, and sci-fi wargames at that. I could find a use for a modern zombie set though. I suppose if this is successful enough they could do other genres.
EDIT: I just noticed... I think those are totally those awesome Litko paper figure bases. I should really buy more of those.

Have to admit I did find myself wondering about the feasability of printing my paper minis on transparencies..... This I suppose cuts out the middle man. The artwork is nothing spectacular, but serviceable. And for just $20 to get them all digitally..... I'm tempted.

I am wondering if one could do something similar himself, using old fashioned overhead projector transparencies to print on, then laminate...

I did a $1 pledge to help them out. I don't really need more Fantasy minis (got lots and lots to paint/finish painting), but am really interested in their product, especially potential POD.

I love that boba fett inspired hunter, I can't believe nobody has thought of making a fantasy version of boba fett.

You'll end with nice "hero's ghosts" What we lack at home is the white paint under the color ink, which make the figure opaque and "brillant". Without it we get transparent colors, so transparent figures

The free-to-print Zaibatsu boardgame uses similar standees.

You'll end with nice "hero's ghosts" Not too sure about that - but of course, it would depend on the printer. Hm, mayhaps I should drop by the FabLab one of these days...

Parduz is right, normal inkjet printers use CYM colour profiles.... Cyan, yellow, magenta with the assumption of a pure white background. You'll always get a stained glass effect on a transparency with anything other than hard black. A laser printer would be more solid, but again, there's no capacity to print anything white, so a a figure with a lot of white would just have gaps. Bear in mind that printers are set up to print transparencies as just that... Transparent. They are meant to let light through on a projector. You don't use any special settings to achieve this... Printers just print that way. Great for ghosts, fairy wings and windows, but not for solid colour.

^ That may be, but as I indicated, I have access to a FabLab - a creative workshop with all kinds of advanced machinery for making all kinds of prototyping - laser cutters, 3D-printers and what have we. So it's not impossible that I could come up with something... we'll see.

I suppose you could use white paint on the opposite side of the transparency, or put in a white piece of paper, but cutting out the white paper looses the labour savings the transparency is supposed to get you.

Dane..... If you have access to a laser cutter then double sided card prints are still the best alternative to 3d sculpts. A laser cutter could produce them fast enough to be commercially viable and cut them to the black line making great looking figs.

I'll be going there tomorrow, and have a talk with them about what they can do and what they can't. The workshop is free to use, and if I need small amounts of materials, they got it covered - larger amounts will need to be provided by myself. It'll be interesting.

Yeah, the clever people were right. I'll need an industrial printer - which they do have at the FabLab, but it's about the only thing they charge real money for (and when I say 'real money', it's on market level, so thqat part could probably be done cheaper elsewhere). As for the laser cutting part - totally free access to the thing! So next project is how to set up a proper laser cutting file (doesn't look too hard), and get on with trying out a few minis.

Free access to a laser cutter is awesome. I've just set up a silhouette cameo and that's really good. But laser would be a dream.
