Take to the skies for epic Victorian science fiction adventures in 30mm scale! Steamlaunch modelWhew! 90% it is! I had an 11th hour re-design of some major pieces so the layered version will have to wait until after the contest. But done is beautiful.

What I would recommend is this - make a table out of clear plexiglass. Cover the tabletop in the Sky Island tiles, cutting around the edges of the islands and bridges, so you can see below. Then, cover your floor in my cobblestone street tiles! Extra points if you glue cotton balls under the table for clouds. Ooh, and below you can make a horde of shark monsters attacking the newstand currently serving underdressed elf ladies who were on their way to see if they could get work at the harbor hiring hall.
And your players see all of this from the deck of their frickin' flying steam ship.
Players. Minds. Blown.

The layered version, soon to be released, has different name options for the tailfins.

squirmydad - did you ever get those alternate tailfin names finished and put up?

squirmydad - did you ever get those alternate tailfin names finished and put up? Yes and no...I made alternate fins and alternate colors and changed the build a little bit for better stability and built a flight stand and was working on the instructions...when life kicked me really hard and this project, like many others, fell out of my head. It's back in my queue of "things to look at and see what needs to be done to finish". I have a lot of things that are stalled at the finish line.

No! I am the king of projects stalled at the finish line. I might have to start more projects to stall, in order to maintain my title.
Seriously, I totally understand. Real life rears its ugly head. Interests shift. Something that isn't that big a deal will need some additional thought (like those stupid steps on the Dodecagon House, or the seats on the Mail Coach, or the fenders on the Oshkosh, etc. ). I thought about going through the drive and seeing what would be closest to finishing, and it quickly became a touch depressing.
Take your time

Eric, on the card sandwiched between the top and bottom, was that cereal box? One layer? Necessary?
The hull looks like it should make this fairly sturdy, so I was wondering.

The hull is sturdy without the addition of the cardstock/cereal box, but I liked the extra sturdiness and it kept wrinkles out of the deck. I used the flight stand from the Eagle V Winnebago to support it, one of those other unfinished items was a flight stand specifically designed for the Steamlaunch.

Did you glue the cereal box to the bottom hull before building it? I don't see that it would mess anything up.

Flight BasesI just came across these in my steamlaunch files; You need to back the pieces with cereal box cardstock or it's equivalent for strength. The tabs on the columns (the pieces with clouds textures) should go through the slots in the dark oval bases and glue to the underside of the base.

Unfortunately, I am getting a Dropbox File 404 error - file not found - for both the airship and the flightbases links. The construction pics page works fine... hmmm.

The model can be downloaded over on the download page for the 2015 awards. It sounds like the bases old squirmydad mentioned are different from the generic figure bases, so maybe he can re-post that file. EDIT: Really old squirmydad ? Your @ ping adds "old" in front?

Hmm, links to fix today, thanks for the heads-up. When I took over the forum and site years ago I inherited the Admin account and my name isn't Jim. I changed the Admin account to my username and added "old" to the account that I don't use anymore. I believe @ admin pings me now.

Dropbox has been changing a few things on me and some shared links work and others are needing to be redone, nuisance. I re-linked the ones above for the model and the flight bases and here they are again; Flight BasesSteamlaunch model
