A client of the Asian Temple has a problem printing on US Letter and I have no idea what the problem could be. It works when he uses A4 paper and settings. He wants me to move the parts into the red frame designating the "print safe" area. But of course that is where the parts are. To me this can only be a margin setup problem but I have no idea how switching the paper will produce this. Any hints?

Not actually seeing the file page, I'm not able to really get into it much.
But as I frequently build free models, I often come across this type of error.
From the image shown, I would go into Gimp and knock off the promotional stuff at the bottom.
Sometimes I will print at 95% and that usually takes care of margin issues.
Other times I will adjust my view of the file and Print Current View
And on simple models, I'll Fit to Page.
There are many work arounds.
But, it may be a page formatting issue. Not sure.

US Letter vs A4 is actually quite a pain, because the US Letter is slightly wider than an A4, and an A4 is almost 2 full centimeters taller than a US Letter, so designing for one inevitably causes problems for someone printing on the other.
I've always overcome this problem by using a custom page size for all my layouts that is as only tall as a US Letter (279mm) and only as wide as an A4 (210mm). Doing it this way does mean there's less area to work with, especially with the 10mm margins but it has saved me from having to deal with this sort of issue.

My work-around will likely be to open the PDFs in GIMP and change the canvas to be Letter sized. They're single-layer PDFs, so it shouldn't be TOO much work to just print from GIMP. It'll be more work if I feel compelled to use my cutter - the current layout doesn't lend itself to machine cutters at all.
If you use the reg mark layers I've shared with folks, they SHOULD: a) guarantee your layout fits on both Letter and A4 sized paper, as long as your printer doesn't have very large margin requirements. b) allow the community to create cutfiles for your pieces. You can play tricks like putting your branding on a separate layer, so if you need lots of space for your product branding, you can have it in the "do not put stuff here" area and let people turn it off, but if you can layout the pages to avoid those issues, even better.

...It'll be more work if I feel compelled to use my cutter - the current layout doesn't lend itself to machine cutters at all. Something this size I would only build with cutfiles. I am not good at hand cutting, and multi story would require accuracy. This just moved down my priority build queue, since I will have to do a bunch of rearranging. @lightening, would you consider a Cutter-friendly layout? Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using proboards

What I don't understand is, if I set my printer to US Letter there is no problem at all. So I would think this is a driver problem. From the screen print I received it looks like the margin is deleted. I understand the different page sizes, that is why I only place parts in the safe area (the dotted red line). What I also don't understand is, the old models (also the Desert Village and Fortress have been selling for almost 10 years) and never have I heard about this problem. oldschooldm : About the layout and cutters, well it's 10 years old and I have not yet found the original sources (I have a couple of old drives that Win10 is unable to read, so maybe they are there ...) I wanted to see if I can make cut files before I started to rebuild it, but also realized that the placement of esp the large parts would not work. I would have to completely redesign (and recreate the textures) the whole thing. So as much as I understand that this makes it a no-go and I would love to find a way to add cutfiles, I am afraid for this model it won't work. I will redo the Samurai Castle though!

I have tried the gimp solution, that seems the best path to go! Thanks!!!

It'll be more work if I feel compelled to use my cutter - the current layout doesn't lend itself to machine cutters at all. I'm not sure why, but I have never been able to print from Gimp. I'm sure it is a settings issue. I seem to get a lot of artifacts and colors are 'wonky'. It seems strange that I can export files and print from pdf, png, jpg, etc. with no issues. What seems strange to me is that the customer has this issue, and it seems to be the one and only time it has ever happened. This shouldn't be a shock. I had to deal with this last week even, but since I already knew I was going to modify the ship, I just went ahead and adjusted it in Gimp. When you do models from around the globe, older or newer, designed on different systems, there are going to be occasional issues. It shouldn't have been too big an issue for him. How many pages is the model?

I can never print from GIMP either! I usually export a png and print that.

You might have better luck switching to portrait mode. It should only cut off the bottom of the page and leave the graphic alone (at least the one in your example).

Vermin King: I was shocked when I counted the pages for the OBS page. It's actually 95 But you only need all if you want all interiors and undersides ...
