I'd originally planned to have the augmented sleigh, some of sirrob01's trees from 2012 (I think), and an as yet unveiled item for Christmas Wars in this shot, but the sleigh is derailed and the secret item is far from done I still like the Marcos Hidalgo (Toposolitario) Santa Chicharra

With apologies to Chris for not finishing the sekibune, yet, I have gotten side-tracked with Christmas. My step-granddaughter Zoe has no Christmas-y stuff. She was looking at some of the decorations that my mom puts out each year, and wanted something to put out at her house. I don't remember which of the Disney sites had it, but many years ago I downloaded the 'christmas-village-playset-printable-1109', 'christmas-character-playset-printables-1209' and 'christmas-train-playset-printables-1209'. The train is even boxier than the Tweetsie trains. The 'Christmas Village' playset is actually three connected buildings of Santa's house, the reindeer stable and the elf lodge. The buildings are just slightly large for rpg scale, but I thought I would give it a shot. re-sized to look appropriate, and set to work. The character set, which I thought was supposed to go with this, has characters that are about 75% larger than scale of the building, so I rescaled those, too. They are being set up to use the Kev's Lounge bases. Almost finished the village last night. The whimsical artwork should do well, but the village geometry is totally ludicrous. I'll post some photos tonight. But it makes no sense. These playsets are usually low profile. More of a backdrop to play with the figures in front. But they have low profile side buildings, yet the Santa house extends back. And for no apparent reason than to see if the designer could do it, the low profile buildings are not rectangular. They all fuse together as one construction, And the base footprint does not match the buildings, but are more of a 'guide' to placement. Between now and Thanksgiving, I'm going to redesign this to have three rectangular buildings. Throw in some of Sirrob01's trees, a rescale of Zio's sleigh, and a few other pieces, and I think she will have fun with it. I will try to design these so that the buildings will nest together with the figures fitting in the smaller building. There's enough texture, that I should be able to turn this toy into something much better. Here's to turning a sow's ear into a silk purse.

Snow dripping from the rooftops is a nice touch

The snow dripping from the rooftops was on the original model, but they didn't account for the roof slope, so on the 'as designed' build, I didn't have the snow coming down at funny angles. Just using skew, I was able to fix it.

VK, that's looking VERY good! You are putting the pressure on; I haven't even started on the Christmas model for my wife yet (I was late last year also; gave it to her on New Years Day).

Thanks. I'm not sure why they made the roof overhangs so big. On the stable and lodge I fixed those, so now the Workshop looks worse. I think I'll fix the roof overhangs and do it again ... maybe

Okay, if you were a seven year old, would you prefer to play with this? Or this? The characters were reduced to 57%, the reindeer to 65%. So, they would have really looked large in the original scale

Can I know what are the base made of? I used bravesirkevin's bases. On his site, he has 25mm round plain bases. I used the texture from Sirrob01's tiles (from the 2012 Christmas Wars Hoard) to texture the plain bases. Those bases are three layers thick which gives them a little extra weight at the bottom. They are meant to allow you to slide the figure out for storage, but in this case, I glued the tabs into the slot and filled the ends with glue and added more glue in a couple more applications along the seam where the figure joins the base. I just wanted them to be sturdy Those are also Sirrob01's trees from the same Hoard. I should probably take a photo of how everything fits together. I still need to make a box for the whole thing to fit into

Not all tasks would involve hitching up the reindeer or firing up the Chicharra, so I'd planned on doing a mod of the Salamander, cardboard-warriors.proboards.com/thread/8529/okazaki-city-fire-department-salamanderThe goal was to simplify it, but maintain the overall geometry, but that is going to have to wait. When I did the tracked version of squirmydad's Air Raft, my goal was to have it as an option, cardboard-warriors.proboards.com/thread/8640/air-raft-black-nebula. I might come back to that sometime (unless someone else wants to do it ... hint, hint). I want to thank Papercraft Warrior for his fix for my original idea I'd also considered Christopher Roe's Onager. Not this year. www.genetmodels.com/ebbles-miniatures-2010-2011/Also considered topo's Walrus, but that's a skimmer, not a snow cat. www.toposolitario.com/workshop/hovercraft.htmlSo I went for a search in the old hard drive for snow cats, and found the caliber from www.oharacorp.co.jp/papercraft/cali/pcdl.htmlI even like the color. The blade is extraneous, so I'll adjust the front end so that there is a mock up of the blade attachment point, instead of the blank 'glue here' spot. It's 1/43 scale, so I'll rescale it and still have room to throw another one-page model on the page. Probably one of the Delta7studio Christmas models, www.delta7studios.com/Delta_7_Studios/Christmas_models_A.html

VK, that's looking VERY good! You are putting the pressure on; Now that is an understatement on both counts... Vermin King: I think any 7 year old worth their salt would want to play with either and both versions, and probably not even notice the difference for what they are - sins of the constant struggle for perfectionism that we fill our adult lives with... Uhm... I guess what I meant to say is "why chose?".

Zoe is rather particular sometimes. She would be the one to ask 'why is the reindeer stable an outhouse? And how are all the reindeer supposed to fit in there?' I had said that I ought to post how everything fits in the big building Making a box for it to fit in, designed to look like a wrapped present, would complete the set. As far as the North Pole crawler, this is as far as I got last night As far as the filler models, I decided that I could fit two of them into the other half of the page. I'd done the rocket before, but I can't remember who I gave it to. Last year I decided I was going to go through and do two of his Christmas models each year until I catch up. I posted the Kopter last year

Thanks, I think I'm going to go with a corrugated cardboard 'hatbox' for this. Square box with a lid that slides onto the top. I'll glue 'gift wrapping' to the outside surfaces. Tommygun was the King of nesting projects. His Sci Fi Hex Buildings were an exceptional example of the concept

The crawler has a problem. One of the reasons I chose this one is that I was curious about how the tracks wrap. The answer is 'incompletely'. I wasn't sure how I wanted to fix it. The problem is that the tracks wrap over the top and around the rounded ends, but not to the ground. I figured that if I were to fix that, I might as well have them wrap all the way around. Or, I can use marker to hand-draw the track area that shows. Or just make it black and call it shadows.
The other issue is that this is a 1/43 model. I made it slightly larger than 1/56 scale and it still looks small. So, if I re-print, I might as well make it a tad larger.
Or I can hand-draw the tracks and move on ...

If I remember right, most of the ~30mm figures are around 1:54, you could try that size for crawler.
In worst case, the genet Onager has complete tracks and is easy to build. You would have to improvise the snow plow.

I decided that this will be a Christmas ornament to go with the two small Delta7Studios Christmas models.
I'll fix the tracks to run to ground level and enlarge the whole thing by 10%.
I'm just going to blacken the white area on the smaller one.
