As a follow-up to my 1930s gun truck, I found I needed the exact same thing, but flavoured Russian instead. I created a fairly good proxy, but Vermin King took my work and made it really wonderful. Here is the ZIS-5 Russian truck:

That definitely looks the part. Glad to help Okay, I wasn't feeling good the other night. I wish I'd actually developed textures and drew more on this. I think it came out great, and there's not much credit in it for me. Not my model. Not my textures. Just my knack for kitbashing. Just a thought, should I darken the area at the back under the bed, but not the rear tire?

I was particularly bugged by not knowing whose side view was used. A little hunting yielded www.o5m6.de/, Engines of the Red Army and Wehrmacht Should add 'All truck drawings are based on the excellent line-drawings of Mr. N. Polikarpov in the Russian magazine M-Hobby.' What an outstanding resource! Would you want this little guy even more correct? The tail end doesn't look right. Is that where you had 'build issues'? The tailgate and bumper don't seem to extend down to the back edge of the sides

You know, I've had a lot of fun with this guy, only tonight I thought 'Am I re-inventing the wheel?'
Found several Zis-6's and A Zis-42 Halftrack, and a couple Zis-5's on pirate sites. I think the GAZ-64 is also based on the Autocar, so it would have been close.
But this has been more fun

Vermin King, the fit behind the cab is too short because I squared it off instead of leaving it curved; the front fenders don't fit under the cutouts in the hood quite right (this was a problem carried over from the original that I thought I had fixed) and the front and rear ends of the bed would do well to come down as far as the sides. I had found a full 1/48 ZIS-5 papercraft model, it was just far more complicated than I wanted to try to build. But this HAS been fun, and I have enjoyed the collaboration.

I am working on two models that are going to be Christmas gifts, but I did print and score my latest version. I also cut out the cab to test fit. There is a little bit of 'massage and coercion', but it appears to work. I'll know more when it is glued together. I also made s minimal slit at into the roof at the corners of the rear wall to give a little extra wiggle room. I am not confident enough that I can replace the 'Zisproxyfinal' file with 'Zisproxybetter' file, just yet, but here's where I am at anyway. I took care of the back end, and squared up the front of the cab. The cab back wall was slightly lengthened. The front end was made more Zis-like, with the emblem, grill treatment and adding rod-mounted headlights. The file above had a tweak of the back wall, but I'm not completely confident. On the dry-fit, I made those slits. I just stretched the wall so that the top edge of the wall is where my slits allowed fit. Your comment though has bumped the priority level on this.

Is this 1:56 as well?

The length is exactly 1:56. The other dimensions and proportions might be a little off. But darn close
