To help with your Gimp experience, you will want to change some of the Default Settings, so you don't have to change them all the time. First you need to download the program, www.gimp.org/downloads/ . Like wyvern, I prefer the older versions found lower on the page. When you have installed and opened the program, go to Preferences A new window opens and you want to go to Default Image Settings Those are the ones I use. 2550 X 3300 is Letter. And generally working in 300 dpi, I set the resolution defaults. As I work in inches, I set the Default Grid Size at 75 X 75 pixels ( for 300 dpi, that is 1/4 inch by 1/4 inch ) Since Hoard files and many of the files downloaded from OBS and other sources are Letter, this is probably a good choice in general If you are working in A4, you should choose 2480 X 3508 pixels instead of Letter on Default Image Settings. If anyone knows how to set the PDF default for 300 dpi, I would certainly like to know. I hate having to change it any time I work with a pdf

For all versions of GIMP, you can open new file at the paper size and resolution that you want, from the File menu. Click File then New... Create a New Image dialogue will open. From the Template dropdown menu, select the paper size and resolution that you want: ( for some reason, I couldn't take proper screenshot with the menu open.)

Yes, but the default setting is one that never comes up. By setting it at what you use most often, it saves you from having to change it Every Stinking Time

OK, I see what you mean. I saw that you were talking about setting the default paper size using the pixel boxes. You can get the same result by selecting the paper size and resolution in one go from the Template menu. you can even select toilet-paper size

Too funny. It says Toilet Paper (US) on mine. Shouldn't there be an international standard for toilet paper size?

I was tempted to suggest there'd be two standards at least, Imperial and Metric, but it seems there isn't even either. Wikipedia though has a page all about toilet paper (where else?!). Great to see how quickly a topic can degenerate under current conditions
