Hello, I would like to solicit your thoughts on the ff:
1. Rendering - more cartoon-like or more realistic-like? 2. outlines - white or black 3. front and back sides vs front and mirror 4. individual figure or mob (multi-figure illusion)
I am mulling this over as I plan my first set of paper soldiers. Currently planning to do any of the ff:
1. British in India 2. Philippine Revolution 3. Philippine mythology
Thoughts? Thanks!

most prefer more cartoon-like. Black or white generally depends on the style of character, but most of the time black seems better. Front/back is preferable, but if your view is more from the side, mirror isn't so bad. On number 4), it depends on how the mob comes out and the purpose. For ranks of figures or background crowd, mob would be fine

I agree with everything Vermin King said. As to subject I would like to see some Philipine mythology figures, because I have no idea what they would look like and I might use them in a D&D game some day. Wargamers might be more interested in the other topics. Your lancers look great!

great man!!!!! i can say for experience that fantasy sells better than historical!!! so i suggest to go for whatever is fantasy if your plan is to make some money then i must admit that the british in india is interesting rather than realistic or cartoon to me the problem is making miniatures stand out. you know they are small paper soldiers i myself prefer cartoonish colors becouse minia standout better then i prefer front and rear individual minis with a black border and a white one option so people can chose if they want to save ink. I wait to see some fantasy stuff too!!!!

It depends on what you call cartoon like. Too much cartoony, with big heads and hands and short body, wouldn't mesh with the other figures I use. Too realistic also would have the problem. The style of abstraction used in comics is more or less what I prefer.
The Better outline is black, but is super easy to have both options.
Front and back. If the miniature only has front and the back is mirrored, it isn't a paper miniature, it's an illustration.
The majority of figures in this forum are simple characters, but I have seen some mobs done well.

My preference is without outline, and realistic - like Peter Dennis' Paperboys, and absolutely, positively MUST have proper back images.
Mirrored backs are really a disappointment and make me think the artist is lazy.
