I know a lot of folks (including myself) were wondering if there would be a Papercuts 2024! There will be. I received word from squirmydad that he will sponsor, if someone else would manage and someone would promote. gothique will be promoting, and suggested that I manage things. I accepted. I have little clue on what I am doing, but plan on muddling through in the fashion that you have come to expect. With the few entries we had last year, and with this being last minute (typically I should have been working on this a month ago), I think we will simplify things, if you are agreeable. Three or four categories. But by getting this posted, I can get feedback.

I was hoping for more feedback by now.
Here is what I am thinking --
Figures as one category, single and/or multiple
Tiles
Models/ Kitbashes as one category
Display, which would include papercraft in action
Then Best of Show. I think I will have the Best of Show voting include the top two entries in each category. There have been times in the past where I had a hard time voting because something I felt was worthy to be voted on finished second.
As usual, submissions for Figures, Tiles and Models will require having a Download of the Templates.
Thoughts?

It has been brought to my attention that Models and Kitbashes need to be separate.
Much of the time Tile Sets and Models require similar effort and could be combined. Kitbashes would then be separate.
Combining this way, the mandatory downloads for Tile Sets and Models would be in one category. Kitbashes that do not require download files would be separate.
What do others think?

As VK already knows, I whole heartedly support this, both papercuts itself, and the particular path (as stated above) for this year.
May our fingers all sting with the tiny swift incisions of creativity.

Just an FYI on what we know so far.
Papercuts 2024! will start on August 1 and end on August 31. Voting will be open starting September 1.
Entries should be something done since September 1, 2023.
Let's see what we can come up with!

I agree that original models and kit-bashes should be in two different categories. I will also suggest that voting is open until September 30th as very few members actually voted last year.

I disagree. People need to vote in a timely manner. Not a whole month, but maybe two weeks?

I can compromise on two weeks. I will just have to publicize it accordingly

I don't know what the traffic numbers for the site look like, but I think people may need more time now than they used to. Just my opinion, of course. It used to be just under a week. I had been thinking a week to ten days, but two weeks would seem to be a fair compromise. If you go too long, folks start changing their voting because they think something should be getting more recognition than currently received. I would prefer folks going with their guts to begin with, not putting a whole lot of thought into it. On the other hand, I am still going to allow changing your vote during the voting stage. There are times when you regret your vote, so you should be allowed to change (I wish we could do that in our elections, but until they start putting up candidates worth electing, that would not solve much) Regardless of the time frame, there will still be folks who didn't realize the end date/time. People are people. I strongly suggest voting early. Something I have been mulling over is having a window of time between the end of submissions and the starting of voting. 24 to 48 hours. I think that window would allow folks to look more carefully at the entries before their first votes are cast

I am not sure whether having a gap between submissions and voting is good, bad or indifferent

I can't say I see a real difference, other than adding another week, to which I am indifferent.

I think reminding folks on the FB group would help but an extra week might be ok. I think it's fine either way. Having only one week does create a sense of tension though.

Tension can be good AND bad at the same time.

I think two weeks is a good time allotment. Some of us end up with busy schedules at times especially in August.

July, August and September are tough months for me, too. Two weeks seems fair

We can use all the help we can. You might pm gothique to see what he needs on the promotion side of things. I am still trying to nail down prizes for the categories before posting rules, etc. If anyone out there would like to donate prizes, that would be welcome.

Apologies for asking a rules question before the official post but does it matter if I've already posted pictures here of something I then enter in the competition?
Surprising no-one I suspect, I'm thinking of entering a bunch of Necromunda stuff together in the 'Display / In Action' category, including (but not limited to) the stuff i've been spamming recently.

Yes, you can enter anything done since September 1, 2023. One entry per category.
Your Samsara would definitely fit into Kitbash

I am undecided on a couple things with Best of Show voting.
How long should the voting last? A week?
Should Best of Show include First- AND Second-place finishers or only First-place?

I'd say two weeks as well. I think for two reasons: 1. It's summer and some folks are away in places with no internet (that'll be me in a week) and 2. There seems to be a more spotty engagement with the site. I think HEAVY spamming in the Cardboard Warriors Facebook group would help spread the word.

LOL ... I don't want to step on gothique's toes there as he has the coveted position of Promotional Director. okumarts, what is your opinion on including 1st's and 2nd's in Best of Show. With reduced categories, the variety would be less. Someone might have an extraordinary single figure and someone have a multi-set and only one would move on. Likewise, if I did a map or tile set, I wouldn't want to get bumped by a model, or vice-versa. Actually, regardless of additional comments, I am probably including 1st's and 2nd's, unless someone has a tremendous argument against it

Keep it simple.
