Hello, all.
David, I hope you won´t mind if I hijack this thread to ask a question.
I have a young friend who would like to try his hand at DMing. He is currently part of my D&D 4E campaign, but since he´s into Star Trek, I suggested he might want to try something in that universe.
Can anyone suggest a rule set for a Star Trek rpg? Since he´s a first time DM, I think it would be better if he had a relatively low crunch rule set. My only experience with sci-fi rpgs is Classic Traveller. Suggestions?
Cheers,

Afet, the set I'd suggest is the microlite 20 game Where No Man Has Gone Before. 69.51.142.222/trek/I'm running it and it's good fun, even for people who have played role playing games for over 25-30 years. David

David Thanks. I´ll a look into this. He´s quite young (18yrs), so he may be more into playing something less campy. But we´ll see. Any other suggestions?

When I think of Trek, I always think of campy so it's not much of a stretch for me. Before WNMHGB I used 5th ed. Hero for my Trek Campaign. THERE'S a chunky system for you (but I still love it dearly). I used the Trek Hero reference as a starting point. www.starherofandom.com/h_trekhero/index.phpBefore that I used Big Eyes, Small Mouth which is a totally great game (made less great by the 3rd ed. when they sucked all the fun out of it). Seriously you could also use the old Star Frontiers system, now free and available and really well supported by a rabid fanbase. starfrontiersman.com/downloads/remasteredThis is a pretty good forum for Star Trek Role Playing. oldschooltrek.proboards.com/index.cgi#systems

For SF, I recomend the d6 system. It has much less crunch that GURPS, my personal preference. It is now a open system and has a quick start rules manual that seems pretty easy to get around with it.
You will need to find the boks on 4shared or other sharing sites. If you feel up to the full rules, d6 space is a beautiful book and seems the right fit for the job.

Last Unicorn's Next Generation game was pretty rules light and cinematic and should be easy to pick up cheaply on eBay. I got mine for less than £5 Other than that I agree with either D6 (which is currently completely free) or Savage Worlds. He'll need to do some work but there are already several conversions out there for both. Also check out TrekRpg.Net for help and info and such. Crow

Okumarts, these are already some of my favorite sets!
Some thoughts: In the Romulan sheet, I felt the black border a little on the thin side. I think the one in the Romulan holding his hemet is the right fit. Some figures, specially the sneaking Romulan lady (got to love the expression on her face!) are very difficult to cut.
Can you make a set in the uniforms of the Enterprise NX-01 era? I want to make a campaign starring a sister ship of NX-01, your figures would be perfect for that!

Hackbarth, thank you! That is exactly the kind of feedback I need before I take the plunge into making commercial products.
Would you like a file with a larger border? I can revise things fairly easily.
I'm currently working on the Alien set. I finished two Gorn and two Vulcan today. I haven't really thought about releasing Enterprise NX figs as I never really watched the show and don't know much about it or that era. If there is enough demand and I have time after the next three sets (after the aliens, civilians and a Wrath of Khan era crew set).

Just to add a suggestion, i'm a bit worried about the "running" figures: one single leg as "supporting material" seems prone to bend, twist or get damaged in the storage pretty easy... but i've not built them, so this is just a "feel" that may don't have so much value.

Parduz, I wouldn't worry to much with the one legged figures. I have done some experimentation in this area and at that small a scale with either matte photo paper or card stock, they are pretty sturdy. The hard part may be cutting them out, but once they are glued, they are good.

Thanks for the suggestion, I haven't had any issues with single leg minis to be honest and I've designed and built lots. If they twist or get damaged, you print another, maybe reinforce with some cardstock between the sides (I've never found it necessary, but I can imagine if you're storing the minis in a pocket or pencil case between games they could get a little wonky). For cutting purposes, wait until the glue is totally dry and you shouldn't have much problem. Just follow Jim's advice on cutting out picky details like lances and swords. I really prefer my minis to have some action or movement animating them rather than static poses. I think if anything I would like my paper minis to be known for dynamic action poses and lots of expression and emotion. All the suggestions help though, so keep em coming. ;D

Although I am no real trekky myself, these figs are extremely cool and I intend them to use in my next traveller space opera game. Many thanks for making them, okumart. I hope you continue to make more SF minis (freighter civilians, smugglers? or some marquis rebels?) Would be great.

There is lots more Trek goodness to come! I had some crazy stuff going on at work (I'm a teacher) and I had a freelance project (pay) that took priority. I've also had to argue with a publisher about royalties and Intellectual Property rights on a project I'm prepping. Now.. I will be working on finishing the first Alien set (gorn, andorian, vulcans) this weekend and trying to get the second aliens set out for NEXT weekend. We'll see how this goes.

I've not run my Trek campaign in some time and I'm thinking I want to give this another kick at the can and release more Trek Paper Minis before I get back to teaching in September. So... up next: Aliens (mugato, andorians, etc.) then... Federation civilians to be followed by... any requests? I'm looking at TOS era only.

any requests? I'm looking at TOS era only. uh... canon characters (so Kirk,Spock,Scotty, etc...)? Also, some strange "galactic monster/alien" of the Kirk era dunno what "TOS era" means, so sorry if my request is wrong. My request are based on the needs of the game i mentioned in this post

Parduz I believe TOS refers to 'The Original Series' as oppose to:
TMT- The Motion Picture TNG - The Next Generation DS9 - Deep Space Nine etc...........
So your requests would be in keeping with Okumarts suggestion.
Right how about a page full of tribbles?

Wow, taking forever to colour this, but I think it will be worth the wait. A bit of a preview now of the Alien Monster set. The Mugato... The Denebian Slime Devil... The actual set should be up late Monday, Tuesday at the latest.
