Has anyone considered changing this to allow banners in signatures?
This could be really good for bloggers and commercial artists who use this site.

Actually, I like it the way it is. Grantes, small banners would be okay, too, but this board with the text-only signatures stands out from the mass of boards where dignatures tend to take up more space then the actual posts.
Small banners would be okay, too, but you'd need someone to controle them, i.e. check size and dimensions to make sure they adhere to any rules applicable.

IMHO I think the banners distract too much of what is written and there are some ones very BIG

definitely on the side of small banners.
the problem with text signatures is that they are easily overlooked.
the benefit of text signatures is that they are easily ignored.
a matter of perspective

I strongly in favor of text-only signatures.
Banners are visual pollution, the bane of low-speed connections, an accessibility crime and just plain awful looking. They turn a nice, good looking forum in a parody of 1990 AOL site.

I guess you are right as far as security issues as it is easier to hide viruses in images. I still think that small banners are not that distracting, but not my call.

Yeah, I'm a minimalist so I don't see image signatures coming any time soon. Sorry (or you're welcome depending on what side of the fence you sit).
