I worked all night on paper models, and just as I was settling into bed I had an idea for another one. It only took me about an hour to go from imagining this model to having this paper test printed up. I need to raise the gun portals a bit, and I'll attach some little 3D modules to the outside so that it's a little more interesting to look at. It's just big enough to hold six miniatures, and the lift-away wall is an optional feature.

The texture work on this model is complete. This one should be available sometime Thursday night!

Thaaaats a good one. The texturing reminds me of some of the apocalyptic sci-fi stories from old Heavy Metal magazines.

I don't mean this as a critisism but why do all high tech future wars stuff come joined with rivets? I haven't seen a riveted joint for decades, what about a nice rippled weld seam for once? rgds Alan

Because Rivets are post apocalyptic. and red ones go faster These are unchangeable laws of nature. Seriously, the minute western civilization collapses I'll be wearing chainmail with shoulder pads made from old car tyres, weilding a makeshift crossbow and baseball bat with a nail through it. I'll also be sporting a fetching hockey mask. I don't care if everyone else is carrying AR33s, laser guns or power armour, I'm rocking the apocalypse in style. Keepin' it real

Rivets - I prefer the rivets. This bunker looks like it is intended to be a pre-fabricated solution... stack it flat on the ship on the way to the target planet then rivet it together when you get there.

Honestly, I think the borders look weird without some rivets. And how do we know that rivets won't make a comeback on the battlefields of the future?

Like it!
Kudos on what looks like a pretty major texture, lighting and detail overhaul. You are starting to capture that grungy future look quite well.

Kudos on what looks like a pretty major texture, lighting and detail overhaul. You are starting to capture that grungy future look quite well. Compared to my earlier sci-fi models? Yeah, I think I've finally hit on something that looks the way I always wanted them to. I've really only done a couple of things different, though. I've eliminated the heavily-panelized look, and I've piled on the weathering effects such as rust and cracks. It's also true that I've learned a lot about texturing over the past year, especially with the ruins sets I've been doing. If I wasn't getting a little better at this sort of thing, I'd be worried.

The real achievement is the fact that your models look like handmade and painted/textured models when placed on the gaming board.... I've had 'natural texture' models from a range of publishers, but yours have the same quality as well made wargaming terrain built be figure painters. I've had awed responses from every gamer who's seen them and other friends and family have said thing like 'you just printed them out?' and 'that's just made from cardboard?' in amazement.

Wow, great texture on this one! It's definitely an improvement. I can easily see a line of these on my 40k table. Seriously, the minute western civilization collapses I'll be wearing chainmail with shoulder pads made from old car tyres, weilding a makeshift crossbow and baseball bat with a nail through it. I'll also be sporting a fetching hockey mask. You mean like this fav.me/d2rjtn8 ? I'm working on this one in my spare time. Should be done in a few days.
