I've been, for the last several months, in the development of a concept I've had for over a year: Terrain that is both modular and fully sculpted, allowing both depressions and elevations with equal ease. The design needed to be rigid enough to support miniatures, and easy enough to assemble to make it worthwhile vs the standard terrain types such as styrene or foam.
The result is actually above my expectations. I had a few fitful design halts, but overall the process has gone quite well. I have now released the first set of four panels, which combined with a sample 'flat' pack (available for free) should provide decent variation until I get the next set ready. The panels are available in four textures; grass, sand, snow and 'white' (for using traditional flock or other coverings), and if using pepakura, you can modify the textures as I've included the files and detailed the process for changing them.
Each panel is 32 cm square (with an overlap of 2 cm per side). Structurally they are fairly sound and should hold up well to a moderate amount of metal miniatures.
This is in many ways a bit of an experiment in marketability; I've kept the file cost low as the printing and assembly cost (about 12-16 sheets per panel and about 3-4 hours assembly) will balance the 'total' cost against the aforementioned 'traditional' methods. The additional advantage, as we know, is the environmental cost, as paper is not only recyclable, but the production of which is not as costly as styrene or foam. The fit-up works well. I hope to move on to more complex patterns and water-type terrains like rivers/ponds.
The supports are pre-sculpted and are designed to fit the terrain top. See below:
The section sides are designed to interlock and prevent terrain slide during use.

Thank you!
