Here is the start of my first 3D vehicle. This is the main hull. The overall appearance will be similar to the Eagles from Space 1999. My Moon Hopper, I think will look like an early version of a vehicle that became the Eagle. This is what I have done so far. I'm not sure about the glass though? Edit- Hopper and Modules see post #218 & #219:www.warseer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=226343&page=11

I think it's funny how every artists/designer has their own style.
Your shading.highlights pop and say, "I'm a Tommygun model."
Great work as usual!!

Try a different gradient on the windows-the little rainbow lines say Pink Floyd "Dark Side of The Moon" album cover to me. Are you trying for a chunky or slender look to the model? Good start.

I'll play around with a few more test windows tonight. It has to be some variation of black (without a blue sky to reflect). I'll also try and get a simple line drawing of the vehicle up too.

OK, here is a basic drawing. The landing gear will have more to it when done. The front will be all glass with a frame and more windows on the body around the roof and floor areas. The main body is the middle area (6 inches long) and two 2 inch sections on ether side where the landing gear attaches. The nose and rear will also be separate pieces. The five motors will be three pieces each. Finally, the landing gear will be the hardest to design out, but I think I have something that will work.

I did a huge number of windows and these are what I'm leaning towards. Too flashy?

Those are looking nice! I like the ones that combine the little circle glowy thing with the other gradient. Basically the lower right, and lower middle ones.

It reminds me vaguely of SPACE 1999... (Although that was 11 years ago..) Like it! Sign me up!

Update on what I have done. The windows where changed to the ones above and I have started to build. I was also able to design and build some of the engines. I'm happy with how it came out, but I did go back and add a little detail to the main engine. I have decided to add a small spine to the top of the vehicle. The purpose of the spine is to make the craft will look more modular. I want to design two or more mid sections that can be swapped out. The challenge for the spine is that it has to be small, but still able to support the vehicle. I'm thinking of using two or three triangular tubes that may get covered for more strength. After that will be the landing gear.

It really has the Space: 1999 look. Great job so far.

Alright here is the spine I came up with. I don't think it changes the look that much. It is just two triangles formed from a single piece of paper. I need to do a little surgery and cut out the mid section, so it can be held in place with magnets and switched out with different modules. The modules I have in mind are a wider transport version, shipping cargo box, and nuclear waste transport. I did a little engine work too.

You know me... you haven't even finished the thing, and I have kit-bashing ideas! For example, taking that large red thruster, and placeing about 4 of those in a cluster, and then the aft piece and bow pieces together (forgoing the long center hull), and making a ship that would be a fast orbiter craft that you could place a couple weapons on and it could out-run anything in the fleet (because of the tremendous thrust and small frame). The downside is that most of the existing hull would be fuel cells, and that would be like strapping yourself to a rocket... sure it would be fast, but if there were a problem, you might hear... "Houston, we have a..." KA-BOOM!! Just thinking outloud! So, when will this be available?

I'm not sure. It depends on how the landing gear comes out and a few other things. I also want to design a few different mid sections to swap out. I Think I'll need to do a photographic building guide for the landing gear too.

Well thankfully the landing gear came out correctly and I was able to separate the middle section. I added doors to the connecting areas, glued the spine on and added magnets to the inside of model. I need to finish assembling the model now, then design three more middle sections. PS: I have a name for the Moon Hopper. Falcon, which goes in line with the Eagle and Hawk.

Neat. Nothing more to say, really. Well, there is, but I don't have the time right now. "Great work" sums it up best I think.

Really clever and beautiful. Sure the tiny parts are too fiddly for my fat fingers.

Really clever and beautiful. Sure the tiny parts are too fiddly for my fat fingers. The model is 40cm long, so the parts are fairly big. I think the smallest part on the landing gear is 25mm by 25mm.

Modular fantasticness! I think the boosters and landing struts are especially clever. EDIT: Without the legs it could also double as a Traveller "Modular Cutter" ship.

Thanks guys. I wanted to show proof that I am still working on it. Here is one of about seven or so pods that you can add to the Falcon moon Hopper. Some of these pods are made to be attached to each other to form a mini base. Some will have digital Moon camo.

Yes, is great. Tommy, you should scratch a bit that pod fresh paint, docking ships and picking cargo in low gravity is not easy and precise (try Orbiter - a "real" space flight simulator - to get an idea ). P.S. You may even build 3D meshes of your ships and make them fly in Orbiter!

Here is the military version. I'm not too sure of my ability to make convincing scratches yet, so I'm not doing any. I do have a very light mottled texture to my model, so it does not look too clean. I'm designing the nuclear waist carrier next.

I wanted to add these photos for clarity in the building process. I hope to have pictures of the completed model later tonight or tomorrow.

Good to see the progress of the project. I see that you used Spacedock Stencil in the military model. It has really added character to the piece.
