Hi, Dave. Glad to get the river boat buzzing in your fruitful brain again. I wouldn't obsess about the walkways along the sides of the cabin. Just make the top flat and the PCs can clamber over the top. I you want, you could make a platform at the stern for a couple of minis. Another thing to consider would be a lateen or triangular sail. The yard at the top could be part of the sail piece and be a simple triangular tube that you would score, fold over and glue. Attached is a Spanish galera with Lateen sails. Attachments:

The River Trader could be very useful for a campaign that I worked on - based on the French & Indian War, the Canal and the rivers findsa lot of use MP3 of Boatman's Cure, from the artist's site. Polin' up the river in a three hand boat, Too deep to carry, too shallow to float. Too deep to carry, too shallow to float. If it doesn't lift your spirits, well it leaves you numb. Best cure for the river is a bottle of rum, Best cure for the river is a bottle of rum. The Auld Grump

Boats are nice, but with all of your ground tiles you have no water, no streams, no rivers, no coast. What are your boats supposed to float on? Dryw the Harper

I like this caravel: And this dhow: Those are both beautiful. You're thinking about another boat aren't you, Dave? Yes you are. Heaven knows there is a need for them. FDG's cog is a great start, but a Caravel with Lateen sails would be amazing. And with a little imagination, it could have Planescape airship build options as well.

Any further thoughts or progress on the river boat, Dave? Or has this one been placed in file 13 for the foreseeable future?

Are you thinking ship or boat? Your original image and post were about a boat but some of the later images were of ships. Sometimes smaller is better where adventuring groups are concerned. It seems to me that your basic hull shape and layout would not be hard to re-skin and use as a Mediterranean trader, Arabian dhow, or small oriental junk. It wouldn't make a bad fishing boat, either.
