Right now I'm using the paper flight stands from World Works Games PC Battleground I need some for smaller hover units. Should I just scale down what I got or design new ones. How would you guys design paper flight stands? I'm also considering making some for Ebbles Miniatures Camo Marines with the jump packs, but I want them to attach to the jets and look like smoke coming out. How do should I deal with the balancing issues?

I think you can compensate for balancing issues by gluing a coin or one or more large washers to the bottom of the base.

I made a dwarf with a jet pack for sundered skies. I made a "teardrop" shaped puff of smoke to fit into the jet nozzle and slotted it into a round puff of smoke to form a simple cross base. Both of these parts were about 1" across. When I wanted a little more altitude, I had a sausage shaped puff of smoke to put between them. With the "sausage" it was 3"-4" above the table, and a bit unstable. I'd post a pic, but their at my GM's. I'll try to remember to get them back next week.
If you have balance problems, the right curve on the "tail" of the "teardrop" to bring the smoke under the marines, and you probably wouldn't need weights.
BTW I priced washers at Home Depot a few weeks back and I think the cheapest I found (even by the pound) were going to be $0.06 each so pennies (or even nickles!) are your best bet. I've thought about making "slugs" from lead free solder, but I have not priced it.

I was thinking about washer of 3 to 5 cm for larger models.

I love the flight stands and use them all the time to display as well as play with papercraft. Pennies would work, but I haven't needed them yet.

I really like the plastic drinking cup technique. We have a really great restaurant supply store that has huge supply of different styled and sized cups. I remember them having champagne and shot glasses too. I'll have to check them out and report back on what I find...

In games, it works great because the base DOESN'T block line of sight, and the other day, I was playing a game, and the flying model was actually able to share the same space as another figure (because the cup slid down over the figure... it kinda looked like it was holding him in a tractor beam). When you look like me, you BETTER be smart...

And I'm dumb but beautiful Anyway, there is a good variety of plastic cups at most dollar stores and what is this about paper clips?

SoloSpirit suggested instead of using two magnets (since they repel each other, even if lined up "correctly") use ONE magnet, and ONE paperclip on the inside of the model's hull (or turret, if you need to use it for that). I have larger cups for my larger models, and these 2 oz. cups for my small to medium models. I wish I could find 1 oz. ones for my infantry units... [a href=" "] [/a]
