For my next paper model, I've started working on a simple rustic longhouse. This is really common sort of structure and should fit into any medieval or fantasy setting. I've completed the line-work and I'm just about to do my paper test.

As you're toward rural / rustic building, i want to suggest you some tipical italian rural houses, even if your overall style is more nordic / saxon / english. Perhaps can have some value: The left side is the barn, the porch serves as carriage loading/storage. The "Master" house (the one which own the fields) in the center, and worker houses at the sides Settlers house. Families were large (3 generations, brothers and uncles all in the same house) so family houses were very big, long as in this image or big "cubes" with lots of rooms.

Dave, since I am recently interested in Napoleonic campaign in Spain (Peninsular war), maybe you can consider making some 19th century Spanish building for this sort of wargaming. Something like this theminiaturespage.com/news/21321/

Both of those styles are similar to the Spanish colonial houses that are common where I live (southern California). If I ever get free of my Tudor addiction, I might move in that direction.
