I've been thinking about this one ever since I rented Willow a few months ago. In that movie, there's a tavern with a kind of octagonal shape. We only get to see one side of it, but it inspired me to create something similar. This is going to be a big model, maybe the biggest I've ever done. It looks like it's going to take about 17 sheets of cardstock. For dedicated papercrafters only!
I'm planning to put some cool details on this one, including a set of stairs, roof and wall dormers, and a veranda. Serious business.
I can't wait to see how my paper test works out.

Sounds like the Church Ruin in scale and detail...... I've never met a player who wasn't amazed by it

Not the best photos, but these are the basic forms for this model. You can see that I incorporated some angles on the lower level and the roof, and there's a walkway for your mans. What's missing are dormers and chimneys, possibly a balcony on the tower. With some textures, I think this is going to be really cool model.

That could also work as a small keep if used with your walls and towers.

I'm planning to do this as a multi-layered model, and the textures should match up pretty well with my other stuff. I try to alter my stock textures a little bit for each model, so they don't get too samey-samey.

After a little break to work on other stuff, I'm back to this model.
I've finished the roof dormer geometry, which always gives me a little trouble. It's tricky to get the angles right where dormer's roof meets the main roof, so I just printed out for different angles and tried all of them to find which one fit best.
I need to do the line-work for some support beams for the wall dormer, and the footprint piece, which will have to be in two parts because this model is just a little too big to fit on one page.
After that, I can start the textures -- which is always, always fun.

I've been laying textures on this model for the last couple of days, and I'd like to get this done by the weekend. Could happen.
If you're wondering, this will be a multi-layered model. I'm not going to go overboard with the options, since it's such a big structure with a distinctive shape, and I don't expect people will be printing this out more than once. But you'll still have at least eight or twelve possible combinations of base textures, which I think is plenty.

That should be more than enough.
I still think your products are underpriced

This is definitely a "deluxe" model and I'll probably ask $4.95 for it.
The lower price point on my other models has worked out pretty well, and I had a hunch that it would. I've been able to dedicate a lot of time to game design, cutting my model production rate from about eight per month to just one or two, and my profits have remained about the same. I don't know if it's entirely because of the price, or because I have so many models on offer, but it's working.
After I publish Hired Swords, I'd like to get back to designing models (and the occasional Solid State War release) on more of a full-time basis. I'm really interested to see what happens when I get back to grinding out eight models a month.

Plowing through the textures on this one. Every surface except for the roofs now has something on it, and many of the layers are now complete. If I stick to my schedule, this should be available sometime this weekend.

The to-do list is getting pretty short now.
As soon as I finish this posting I need to add "seat" layers -- variable positions where the chimneys and dormers will be affixed to the structure.
The big task today is setting up the Tudor beam layers.
After that, I can add the doors, windows, shutters and lamps. It's nice to have these all prepared ahead of time.
Then I'll spend some time with the Burn and Dodge brushes for shading and highlighting.
That should conclude the texture work, and I can start setting up the PDFs. The rate things are going, there's a good chance this model will be finished by Saturday. (Maybe as soon as Friday night, but I want to leave some room for unexpected visitors or game night.)

High tech civilian structures (Something with interiors) and not war damaged with lots of little things to block lines of sight.

How big is going to be, footprint wise?

The footprint is about 11" x 7.5".
And this set is almost done! The PDFs are finalized, so that means I just need to create the adverts graphics and write up the assembly instructions. A few more hours.

I think Tommygun's reply is worthy of some thought. I don't want to put a bump in the way of your momentum on this project, of course. But I can see me building this with each level nesting on the one below so that each level could have interiors. I'd put in interior walls to support the floor above. Since I usually build your stuff with Old English styles, the wood trim makes a good break off point. I have to print two copies to do it, but it works.
A purpose-built building with interiors would probably be well received.

I'm pretty comfortable in the fantasy/medieval style, and there are still a lot of places to go with it. For those reasons, I don't feel a great pull to move into other genres. To start designing models in a modern or near-future style, I would need to start a new texture library, and that takes a big commitment. I really need to be in love with what I'm doing papercraft-wise, or it starts to feel like work. I've designed this simple system for stackable block tower buildings with interiors, and it's virtually ready for skinning. I don't know what I'll do with this paper test, or if I'll just treat it as an experiment to see how this could be done. I'm keeping it in mind for projects down the line, though.

That almost screams out sci-fi/near future as is.
But I have a tendency to believe a person should stick with what he excels at, too. And even your fantasy buildings I've seen used in several Mordheim settings.
Sometime down the road, I would like to see interiors for some buildings. My gut tells me that it would be accepted widely. My head tells me that players would say, 'If I'm putting that much work into it, I should do it in plastic card.' I dunno
Maybe it's just my curiosity with what your take would be on a building with an interior.
But you never know unless you ask ...

Wow! It's gorgeous. And HUGE. I think I see a gatehouse mod in it too, I'll get to printing and cutting.

Jerry wrote up a Detailed Instructions Guide for this model, which is now available with the main kit from DriveThru, RPGNow and Wargame Vault.
