Introducing the first annual Papercut Awards The submission deadline for this year is July 31, 2011. There will be three categories for submission: 1) Diorama - Can be created from any available figures and terrain. 2) Best Single Figure - The design must be original 3) Best Multi-figure - A group of figures, regiment, or multi-piece assembly. All figures must be original design. Submissions will be in the form of photographs of your figure(s). For this first contest any figure done from anytime in the past is acceptable, or you may create a new submission between now and the deadline. In years to come only figures created in the time between the previous contest and the new one will be accepted. Submission will also be subject to all Hoard submission guidelines. Any miniatures or buildings included must be made of paper. Ground and other surrounding may be made of any other available materials. Judging will be determined 50% by forum member voting, and 50% by a panel of judges (TBA). Judging criteria will include many factors, primarily Design, Modelling Execution, and Photography. Photography is only a factor due to the fact that if we can't see it well, it will affect the scoring. Winners will receive fabulous prizes worth up to dollars (TBA). Rules of entry subject to change. Check back periodically for updates. Have fun with creating your submissions, and Good Luck!

Winners will receive fabulous prizes worth up to dollars (TBA). US dollars or Papua New Guinea dollars?

Winners will receive fabulous prizes worth up to dollars (TBA). US dollars or Papua New Guinea dollars? I was actually thinking the Zimbabwean dollar... No really it would probably just be a few free sets. Maybe we could get our 'partners' to throw in a little something too.

I got a question about the Papercut Awards and I thought I would answer it here (Hope you don't mind WaffleM). Since this is the first year the of the Papercut Awards all models/sets prior to July 31, 2011 are eligible. It doesn't mater if it was made five or ten years ago, you could still submit it. Now, when next years award rolls around (2012) submissions will only be accepted for models/sets/pictures created within that year (Aug 1, 2011-July 31, 2012). Hope that doesn't confuse anyone. Now as further rules clarification: the model needs to comply with the HOARD Forum Guidelines in content not copyright. That means specifically: "Please, no nudity, graphic violence(gore is fine), or sexually suggestive stuff." The model itself does not need to be released under the Creative Commons License 3. Only the pictures of the set/model and submitted diorama pictures are released under the Creative Commons. Commercial sets are completely acceptable for the Papercut Awards. If fact it may be a way to help promote a commercial set (we are hoping to have a nice graphic you can add to your promotional material).

My T-Rex is an original figure, but colored and textured by Jim. Can I submit it or I must make my own colors/texture before?
(not that i expect my pile of bones to win, but I have to participate in this somehow!)

Good question. After thinking up a long winded post that beats around the bush nicely, the simple answer is you need to have done the submission in its entirety. Just look at it as a way to sharpen you skills in different areas . I have to participate in this somehow! Also don't forget there is the diorama category. I'll be entering in that since I can't draw at any competent level.

Are you sure Nik? I think it would be cool to allow collaborative pieces, so long as whoever contributed was fine with it being submitted. But maybe it's not entirely fair. I don't know. I get help on my stuff all the time. I do all the drawing and coloring, but I take a lot of suggestions and critiques.

Ok, so I've been pondering which of my figures to submit for the competition this year. I think once I get the barbarians finished that they will be a good candidate for that. Otherwise I might go with either the militia shooters I did, or one of the large monsters. Decisions... decisions...

I'm going to submit a stick figure, and win by virtue of being the only applicant

I will definitely be submitting my barbarians when they get done. They are really starting to look sweet! By far my best set yet. My submission will be in the multi-figure category so if your stick figure is a single figure you might still win with him.

My Undead T-Rex Skeleton already has an all-new original fossil texture. The Single Figure category is taken!

I finaly decided on my entry yesterday I'm going for the fastest ever concept to tabletop army ever. I'm only entering if I can get bowmen, spears and command ready and photographed in three days Started on Sunday the 24th..... Wild Orc army. I've finally hit on a style I can sustain, if Matt Groening went to work for Games Workshop, this is what Warhammer would look like

OK, I've decided to enter my Space Patrol set as the Multi Figure entry. I'm most proud of these and thought they really came together well for me as a set. Attachments:

Just to clarify--
Are submissions still welcome ON July 31? I have a few final touches to make on mine, and wanted to be sure that if I post the pictures on Sunday afternoon they'll still qualify.
Hope to be done well before then (but tonight is game night!).

I'm seeing some great submissions so far. Hopefully a few more will come in today and tonight.

The 2011 submissions are in! Thanks to everyone who participated. There are some really great submissions this year. I am really happy with the response. I think it's pretty good for year 1. Now just give us a little time to set up the judging and polls for forum voting. Keep your eyes open for the polls so that you can cast your vote for your favorites in each category.

How long is the voting going to be open Nik? Well Labrat, that's a very good question (this has not been staged at all)... The polls close August 31, 2011. You have just less than one month to make your choice known. You only have one vote in each category so make it count.

There may be a glitch: the diorama poll showed me the standings before I voted. Some really hard choices, especially with the range of entries in each catagory. "Single Figure" includes everything from a 3d vehicule to classic 2d figs. Maybe we need more catagories next year?
Nice work everybody!

Yeah, that's a very good idea. Traditional 2D figures and 3D paper models could probably be a category for next year.

Scenery and Figures should be separate categories.
There were a lot of non-submissions this time, also. I think we would have had more should the categories been more distinct.

Yeah, that's a very good idea. Traditional 2D figures and 3D paper models could probably be a category for next year. 2.5D might blur the lines a bit... Maybe separate vehicles and figures as different categories?

There's a shortage of Orcs who've raided a Scottish village on the way back from a Wh40K convention in my opinion, they really need a category.
