For those who have not seen (I always wanted to say that), I wrote about a little effect piece I made for my group's recent adventure. I don't know whether anyone here is interrested in the kind of "special effects" - I knew I should have taped when we blew up that tent... uhm, anyway, you can find the post at www.walkingpapercut.com.

The local Wal-Mart and Dollar Store both had them one time and I passed them up. When I cooked up a use for them and went back to get them they were all gone. They are relatively inexpensive and small so they are pretty much ideal to add to miniatures terrain projects. FLashingBlinkyLIghts has a mind boggling assortment of flashing color choices. Might be neat for law enforcement vehicles, or base intruder alarms. I'd jump at always on solid colors. Aside from lamp posts, which is great use, I'd use them to light the interiors of buildings.

I should have known that it has been done before . I've been toying with the idea of using these for scenery, dimming the main light and add actual torches, campfires etc. I also considered using one such set to determine line of sight - hold a LED next to a mini's face and see what it can see. It'd obviously be a gimmick, nothing serious, but who wants to be serious anyway?

I also have these little LED candles that run on batteries and flicker like a real flame. They are good to put inside a building or vehicle to make it look like it is on fire. You can get them really cheaply too. Something like 2 or 3 for a $1 US. Attachments:

I need to do some shopping...
Which reminds me... when planning a mod for our roleplaying room (which has since grown to four LED light hoses (if that's even the word) with a microcontroller control (another fine word...), but that's a WIP and for another thread once we get some better results... Where was I? Yes, I bought three of these lights, thinking that maybe I could use them to make other LEDs flicker, only to find out that what makes them flicker is included in the LED itself. They should work and flicker when used with a button cell just as easily. With some kind of clip, they would serve well as torches, hooked up to a wall...
Thanks for reminding me I still have those - somewhere.
Edit: another thing I just remembered... I also have a module somewhere that does the flickering for any LED, well, at least I think and hope so. Flickering blue light would make some nice effect, so would any other color... I wonder whether one could hook up a color-changing LED to the module...
