Actually, we live on the very edge of LA county, on the desert side of the mountains (I can see Plant 42's runways from my upstairs window). Carmageddon turned out to be a bust because people did what Cal;Trans and the media asked them to do: stay home or go elsewhere. Freeways down to Disneyland and back were clear sailing, and going home the freeway alert signs all said "405 Open, Thank you, Los Angeles."
BTW, we walked on the new Little Mermaid ride, just to see it. Don't unless you've got small kids.
