And now some behind the scenes...  My modified WWG railroad in the foreground.    WWG explosion and fire cinematics added a lot.   The rectangular building in the center foreground (which I took to calling the Boathouse) is made of leftover scraps of FDG and GG pieces.       The Alien Thingy!  Mel's Shoilem Marauder.  A piece of the camp tile from WWG Hinterlands, with my modified railroad again. The tents and water tower are from Whitewash City, and the cacti are Okum's. The bit of the sandy hill there is Mel's. All the pieces in the lumberyard are Dave Graffam's (except for the explosion which is WWG).  Dave Graffam's wagon, covered, with Xtea's clydesdales out in front.  The burned-down house is one of Dave Graffam's ruins. With some of WWG's fire stuffed into those holes, it looked fantastic.  Dave Graffam's magnificent church. The dam, to the left of the covered bridge (also a Graffam model) was freehanded by me using some One Monk textures and leftover Graffam pieces. The waterways, by the way, are Fat Dragon Games', from the Rio Draco set.  The gravestones are Propz Graveyards. There's a One Monk statue there at the end of the walkway, but you can't see it very well.  Smugglers Rowboats from Dave Graffam.       I don't know about you guys, but I got some big fingers and sometimes posing minis is challenging.  And the whole shebang. |

Thanks! ;D I use machine cut discs of full-sheet texture, with a (carefully measured) space for a slot, then I glue those to a plastic slotted-beveled base (a Warmachine or Malifaux base) and use poster putty to secure the tab into the slot. Thanks for the compliments guys, I had a blast building this. I've had been wanting to do something with Okum's Western sets for a while, and thought adding Big Jim's aliens ala the movie would make a good mashup. |

Not a papercut question, but ...
You surely are gaming on this setup. Are you playing a straight Western scenario or an Aliens vs Cowboys game? And what ruleset?

The original plan was to have a place to test Flying Lead for a Western setup and scenario, but that was before I decided to add the aliens. I'm sure coming up with the aliens' stats would be pretty easy using the weapon build-ups that wonderboy put together in this epic thread. However, lately we have been messing around with Go For Your Guns, which is a Western-style ruleset being put together by some folks at Beasts of War. It's a basic minis system that uses poker dice for resolution. I think it's got some potential, probably never will be as in-depth as Flying Lead or others, but still fun. |

That is just really stunning! I am drooling and deeply admiring that kind of setup. Wow. It's just ... wow.. I'm speechless.
I really like how everything fits together so well.. Those animals are great. Where did you get the farm animals (and the hairy horse)?

Definitely, all of the unmounted horses are Xtea's, and the farm animals and dogs are from Horde 30, with some done by Big Jim and some by Scruff, if I remember right. Also got Jim's donkey and cart in there. I had wanted to put at least the clydesdale-style pack horses on large bases, but I only ended up having the one unused 50mm, so the bull got it. You can see him and the pig with the rest of the farm animals watching the action in photo #4 of reply #1, and in a couple of the "behind the scenes" shots. |

I finally found time to actually go and see the movie that helped inspire this build, Cowboys and Aliens, and it was much, much better than it had any right being.
If you are even the least bit interested, please try to see it before it leaves the big screen.

Great looking diorama! Love the set up and elements! Thanks for posting the pack horse image too!
I'm running a western rpg and seeing the paper figures for the towns folk has given me inspiration to use them for minor characters during normal sessions so I can have extras the have get in the way of the PCs! ;D
